u mean usb headphones or usb sound cards.

:Hi:

i already have a SteelSound 5h and love it. Just that the onboard DFI Ultra-D sound card sucks (POS) and I wanna change it. So considering:

- Audigy2 ZS

- XFi Xtreme Music

- Audigy2 NX

- Icemat USB Sound card.

- Some other USB Sound CARD.

:Comp2: :Comp1: RESEARCH!

^^ Well, for Frequent Lanning, the USB Sound card..
But i dunno how good itll be compared to be an Audigy2 ZS.

Id say, get the el cheapo Audigy 2 ZS (No Box) and the USB Sound card :p.

i dont know about the Audigy so wont comment.
about x-fi music. its a great card. and its not just for audiophiles.
i have a zalman 5.1 RS6 headphones and its simply awesome.
totally changes the CSS/doom3 experience. (now i hate doom3 even more :) creepy.)

this cards got three modes of operation. Game/Audio creation/ multimedia (something, not sure) the differences between Gaming (for games duh) and multimedia (for movies/mp3s) is really great. dont know the tech stuff behind these modes but it enhances the sounds for each of the applications.

EDIT: watched all my DVDs after getting this soundcard and it was really a different experience.

@ Karan - Get the X-Fi. Seriously, its an awesome card. Two convincing reasons to but it :

1. Works 3.5 times faster than a P4 2.4 Ghz (The AD says that :P)

2. Chaos owns one. (That's enough to convince anybody :P)

The X-Fi using asio drivers in audio creation mode with bitmaching enabled is way better than anything the audigy2 can ever dream of. Sounds better to my ears than the usb optoplay that i have which is saying a lot.

hey chaos :hi2:

care to tell me about ur usb device?

i am totally flabesghasted as to what to buy, so i am laying out the though process in my mind:

- should ideally have onboard DSP to reduce CPU utilization.
- usb?
- mostly gonan be used with Headphones, but possibly high end audio later on.
- if usb, then would buy proper sound card later, but the USB quality (SnR etc) shoudnt be too low + price.

there are a couple of USB sound cards available in ebay.in? are they any good?

also about PSU:

after a LOOOOOOOOOOOOT of reading:

- the seventeam PSUs look very good (price, performance) but have

0

bling value and are not modular. + they are preety long (150mm - 220mm and will be a hard fit in my super lan boy)

- silverstone ST60F:

modular + very good reviews .... are on the expensive side, plus i have a doubt:

if it has only 13A on 12V1, how can it power my opty165 @ 2700 @ 1.55Vcore which supposedly consumes 210W of power alone (TDP calculation.) 210W translates to 16A+

- enermax 620W liberty: ah well all rounder.... expensive in SIngapore.

- fsp fortron 700W (cant find any dang reviews and limited +ve responce :@, but no -ve), not modular.....

hmm if life was all but slightly more simple!

regards,

karan

USB device automatically means no hardware acceleration. If you want hardware acceleration, you have buy either audigy2/4/xfi or that cmedia 9738 or whatever chip thats there in hda x-mystique and xplosion. My audiotrak optoplay is mainly for listening to music on my laptop. Its only stereo sound but extremely clear. It was cheap when I bought it... 40$+tax but is no longer available. If u wanna connect high end speakers later and need hardware acceleration, the only options you have are the xfi platinum or the HDA soundcards which u can even run over optical. (Only cards with DDL and DTS encoding)
