Guys i want to know the best vfm proccy of the following;
Q9400
Q9550
X4 940BE

shoot ur comments.......thanx in advance
:hap2: :hap2:

also i want to know the best VFM mobo under 7-8k??
EDIT: msi neo3 or gigabyte EP45-DS3L??

if u want to oc then Q9550 best , even Q8400 at 3.3ghz beats oced phenom II to 3.6ghz , after oc at 3.8-4ghz phenom 2 cant even come close to Q9550.

for stock i think P2 better .

u can get gigabyte EP45-UD3R around 8k , will take Q9550 to 4ghz easily .

^^You should know naa :p All that matters is Intel even if similar performance is available at lower price..

Phenom II X4 940 @ 10.4k + another 4.5k for 790GX with CF sound more value deal that spending 15k only in processor :p

But yea even E6300 is better than Phenom II don't you know that ?

why everyone expects that user is going to OC :-|

OP has asked VFM and not best ocing :S

also with changing sockets scenarios with intel i would suggest to stick with amd phenom 2 x4 940BE.

are you sure? Because even Q6600 @ 3.5 can't claim outright victory on X3 720BE. (bit-tech.net | Guide - Overclocking AMD's Phenom II X3 720 BE)

And in this case you are talking about difference of two cores as well as 300Mhz clock speed.

:rofl: i dont trust that review , other reviews show totally different results .

see the q8400 review :bleh:

and see our vantage thread , phenom 2 with 4 cores gives 12k score while Q9450 at same clock gives 15k :rofl:

amd fans here only talk about VFM , but when buyer has enough cash for high end intel then why buy vfm things :p

Read the 1st post...he clearly mentioned he needs the most vfm one :tongue:

anyways... no1 seems interested in knowing his requirements...what he is buying maybe overkill with respect to what he requires...

@RB : Who the hell runs synthetic benhcmark ? Do you ? Tell me you switch on and run 3d mark .. maybe you do thats why you post so much priority to that..

Its just some mere number that people go nuts for. One must see real world benchs like 3dmodelling render time, gaming fps and others.. Nothig beats Phenom II in gaming check the reviews its on top and for thr price it really performs better in 3dmodelling.. The only processor beating it is Core i7 :)

Also if you don't trust that review why would someone trust yours ?:p

Q8400 is still no match even is OCed.. Even Anandtech , guru3d and hexus stated that AMD 940 performs better Q9400 so there is no point a Q8400 beats it ,. .Also there is no test except 2 i.e. Far Cry and one more.. AnandTech: The Core 2 Quad Q8400: Intel's $183 Phenom II 940 Competitor I don't see any test except 2-3 in which Q8400 beast 940 :p{

@ akshay7g --> If you're looking to buy 2nd hand item, contact udayrulz.

he's selling Q 9550 and gigabyte EP45-UD3R which he bought from RoBoGhOsT as he's upgrading

then Q8400 @ 10k will be best , but post ur requirements .

What made you come to that conclusion? If you check reviews of Phenom II 940BE, at 3GHz, it edges out a Q8400 @ 2.66GHz by a slight margin.

A Q8400 will obviously cover the gap when overclocked to 3 GHz, but even Phenom 2 is overclock friendly unlike its predecessor, the original Phenom. If you look at power consumption, a Phenom II is better than Q8400 at idle while the Q8400 is better than Phenom 2 at load. So what really is a deciding factor is the prices. A Phenom 2 940BE costs about the same as the Q8400. So no difference even there. But if you also consider the price of the motherboards for either processor, a mid rage or high end board for Phenom 2 cost will be a lot more affordable than similarly spec'ed board for the Intel. So I would say a Phenom II 940BE makes a lot more sense than a Q8400 if the OP wants a Powerful, but still vfm solution.

I'd say Phenom II X3 720 BE and a 790GX board to pair with it. You could invest the extra moolah in the GPU. Wont get any better VFM than this combo.

JM2C. :p

^^ yep it's a deadly combo.

[With budget permitting] Right now with Phenom IIs here I wont touch any quad core if I am building a new system. If I am short on cash, I will try and get 720BE, a AM3 mobo and 2 GB of DDR3, will add 2 GB more ram if I have moolah. This will prove to be a quite decent system with good upgrade path.

The point is Phenom IIs not only match Quad Cores pretty decently when it comes to day-today computing, but they also have a big advantage in form of IMC. Anandtech review showed that IMC does matter at times even though the Phenom IIs can be slower clock-to-clock when compared to CPUs with core architecture.

Core i7 is in different league altogether. If you have money, by all means get an i7.
