Q9550 @ 4.5ghz ( 530FSB ) on Giga UD3P on AIR!

hi guys ,
Tried some extreme air overclocking on my Q9550 . didnt expect it will do so well but my gigabyte EP45-UD3P just kept on going higher and higher fsb and here is what i got :ohyeah:

Q9550 @ 4505mhz ( 530 FSB ) on Gigabyte EP45-UD3P on AIR !! :clap:



2nd highest overclock on Q9550 according to HWBOT on air cooling

Ran superpi 1m . got 10.3x score on first run but pc restarted on 2nd run so was not able to take screenie :ashamed:

cpuz validation :D - CPU-Z Validator 3.0

used TRUE with scythe 110cfm + thunderblade fan in push pull config and scythe 133cfm blowing towards cpu and GT fan for northbridge cooling . idle temp was just 30 C :O

Robo, hold that mate....that voltage is too high for 45 nm processors and though processor appears to be running cool, it doesn't necessarily mean you can feed whatever volt to it.....for example, running under dice would have processor reporting sub-zero temps, but even then there's a limit to volt and after that processor gives up..........

congo on your accomplishment and I'm sure, you'll be tempted to reach that #1 spot, but I'll strongly suggest against it

we've seen people doing + 4.5 Ghz on e5200, but please understand....that's a Rs 3600 proccy....yours is retailing for rs 17,500 today
 
^ thanks for ur suggesion , i know what are safe limits :lol: but passing voltage for 5 seconds doesnt do any harm :P

That Vcore is really high for air cooling and a 45nm proccy , strictly advice against it.

BTW whats the use of getting a 4.5 G for just a few secs if you cant even use it on your rig.

I advice all OCers to find a stable OC rather than trying to hit the max and frying ur CPU accidentally.

Congrats man. Gem of a chip! Surprising that all these were accomplished with the rig inside the cabinet.

If u really want to push more, remove the entire setup, assemble it on a table, well ventilated (use the Kaze Ultra on the TRUE!) and do another round! I'm sure u'll clock more! And that said dont fry the poor chip! :P

As I hv same setup as yours so i will would like to try but not fully sure after zanderzone's comment
 
overclocking and benchmarking is not for those people who are scared :P

and for gigabyte mobo owners , its safe as we dont need to boot into windows at high clocks and voltage , i boot at 1.35v and 4ghz then apply settings in windows using easytune to take it higher , only passed that voltage for 10-15 sec .

cpu degradation is way overrated, this voltage is totally fine for short periods of time. and anyways if you do end up killing your cpu, intel rma is amongst the easiest to claim provided there is no visible physical damage to the cpu.
iirc thebanik had managed to fry his oem qx9650 bought from the US and had got a replacement locally no questions asked.
