Hi..

So, I've decided to buy the Quad Core for my new rig (that's how much my budget supports right now..:))

the reason for going in for Quad core was that if i go for an upgrade say only upto i3, i'll be changing my MOBO to DH55TC and this one does'nt have a GPU, so inturn i would have to buy a graphics card ..... so all in all....for i3 i would be spending around ~16K and for Quad core i'll be spending around ~10K

Now, as for the Quad core processors..there are many available on the Intel's website, but i'm not sure which one I should go for..

These are the options I have...

8300/9300 2.5 Ghz (4 MB / 6 MB) - 7150
8400/8400S 2.6 Ghz (4 MB) - 8200/-
9400/9400S 2.6 Ghz (6 MB) - 9400

How would u differentiate b/w these 3 models..??

The i-3 530 processor has an inbuilt IGP and it is better than intel's previuos generation G45 IGP. If you need a intel quad then get the,

C2Q 8300 2.5 Ghz (4 MB) - Rs.7150 ( Go for the C2Q 9300 if you find it for similar price.)
Rs.1000/2000 is not worth the smal speed bump of 166MHz.

For mobo go for the Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L ~ Rs.2,300. It has better audio codec (Realtek ALC888B) whereas the Intel DG41RQ which you had mentioned in the other thread is costlier and also has a inferior audio codec(Realtek ALC662).

One of the highlights of G41M-ES2L (as well as other Gigabyte motherboards, even value ones) is its high-quality CPU voltage regulator. It has a three-phase design, ferrite chokes and solid aluminum capacitors.

aah.!! Really!!

The processor itself has a GPU..!! Well then i think i can increase my budget slightly and go for the better processor..!! i was only apprehensive about i3 with this mobo because it did'nt have any GPU and the combo(with additional GPU) was going way out of my budget..but since i3 has one inbuilt, i can go for i3 with D55TC MOBO..!! cool!!

Now there are 2 options available in i3...

i3-540 3.06 GHz

i3-530 2.93 GHz

How much price difference do they have??

Boss you need it for 3D work right. A quad core is better than a dual core for that.
Who told you that the i3-530 is better than the Q 8400 in processor intensive works. It is sligthly better in gaming. But the Q8300 is much better for your purpose.

If i-3 is better than the C2Q then why would intel price it lower the C2Q.

BTW, the i-3 530 ~ Rs.6000. The i-3 540 costs atleast Rs.1000 more and not worth the extra money.

hmm...so u mean to say even though i3 is a processor that came after Quad Core, it's performance is lower than Quad...

So in that case i5 would hv been my choice if my budget would allow, but i5 would shoot ~18K i believe....

if u want to go for a quad core then i'll suggest u to go with amd
with amd phenom 955 and msi-785gm u will end up paying 14k.
(1k more for a phenom965)

or go for phenom 555be and unlock it.

The problem is he wants only Intel and a big no to AMD. There is one more thread in the buying advice section. Seems his friend says AMD is fire breathing dragon.

Someone convince him to go for the AthlonII X4 630. I am tired trying to do that :P

^^^ i don't have anyone to repair my AMD if something goes wrong...no one knows a squat ab out AMd in my area:ashamed:

i have been using amd athalon 6400+ for almost 4 years now. and haven't faced any issue with it.
i later had a e8400 and p5nesli setup. but still loved my amd athlon 6400+.

and for now i am using phenom965 and msi790fx.
and my experience with AMD is awesome.
and with AMD upgrades are easy. on april 26 thuban will arrive.
wait till december and u can upgrade to thuban for less then 10k.
so AMD is my way.
and noone repairs a proccy in his area. just go for an RMA.

and if u face any problems regarding any proccy. then TECHENCLAVE members can always help.

Wow.. That's a lot of threads... You still haven't decided yet????

Since, you seem to be stuck at Intel (dunno why???? AMD makes a really sensible choice at your budget)... And stuck between Core Quad and i3-530/540 go for i3.. Lemme tell you why,

a) C2Q are in their graves.. well almost, the new Intel range is

i3- Beginners

i5- Mainstream

i7- Enthusiast

You buy an i3 and you'll have a lot of upgrade options (CPU wise) in the future... LGA 1156 is the way to go and it'll be soon that the C2D and CQuad's are going to be given their final Salute.

b) Since you mentioned IGP, i3's have better IGP then the previous generation (they have a 45 nm IGP on the CPU die itself)... It's not great but will handle all the basic stuff just about fine...

c) When you have the budget you can upgrade to i5-750 or maybe something better, and that my friend is serious performance...

Phenom 2 555 + Unlock = Most VFM setup. Need i say more?

+1 for the sugesstion, Phenom 2 555 has a tremendous unlock success rate ! even if it doesn't unlock this proccy packs quite a punch.

hmm....but as DarkAngel said...

"Who told you that the i3-530 is better than the Q 8400 in processor intensive works. It is sligthly better in gaming. But the Q8300 is much better for your purpose.

and now u're referring for i3.....all i want is faster processor speed within my budget..and ya..from intel ..

AnandTech Bench (beta): Intel Core i3 530 vs Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400

Go through this list and decide according to the softwares you use. One doesnt dominate the other entirely. It depends on the particular application you use.

But as St.John says LGA-775 is EOL. They wont be getting any new processors. DDR 2 wont get cheaper. So in case you wanna upgrade in the future u wont have many options.

Thats why people here are insisting on AM3 based AMD system coz even their upcoming Thuban(6 cores) is compatible with it. They dont have seperate sockets for mainstream and high end like intel ones and mobos are also much cheaper. You can find a feature rich AM3 mobo for as little as 5.5k which is capable of supporting 6 core processors.

Currently AMD proccies(&platform) is the most VFM in the entry and midrange segment upto Rs.10-12k (processor+mobo).

Thanks for the link DarkAngel..

According to the comparison, C2D works well for my purpose and also it is neck to neck with the AMD..

the AMD rig you suggested in the other thread...is that the final rig?? .i don't plan an upgrade for like 4 yrs from the date of purchase...would an AMD work that long.? i've only had an experience with Intel's..

Buddy, i would suggest an AMD rig strongly (AM3 mobo please). Get a dual core now, buy an X4 (Zosma) after some time, and unlock that to an X6 !
I am not a fan of the i3s. Not at all value for money. Any benchies of i3 530 Vs P2 555 ?
