Quake Live in India : Only if we do something about it.

I know a lot of people here would love to play Quake Live and some already do but right now, even our best pinging servers are above 120 is a bit of a bother.

After asking around in the Quake Live forums and mails from id software, I've come to learn that they are currently willing to put up servers in any country, as long as someone provides them with the hardware and bandwidth here for free.

While I'm not in a position to give them what they require, there's a small chance that someone on this site just might be.

id software require a dual core machine with 4 gigs of RAM running Debian 5.x 64 bit and root login information.

Apparently, this can host up to 200 players comfortably. I already have about 50 Indians on my Quake Live friends list.

If anyone is up to the task, please post here and I will give you further information. Even if you personally don't but might know people who can like a Game Service Provider, let me know.

probably a good idea to try and hunt down the admins for igl and vstreet. they're probably our best (and only) hope of getting an indian server.

and an observation... while the specified machine might be capable of 200, the bandwidth required to host that many people would probably be out of the question :(
 
yes, but that number is just what a single rig can handle. we're not going to get that many people online at the same time.

Indiatimes gaming were willing to give id a box but they couldn't install Debian so it stopped there :(
 
I'll try talking to zapak for this... will see if they find it interesting, which i doubt, but m gonna try this for quake. :P

Get a copy of Q3? Why do you need a copy of quake 3?? :S

Quake Live is quake 3 which is free and able to run on the browser!!

for q3 we already have a server but that isn't on topic. we're talking about Quake Live which is basically a new free version of Quake 3 in open beta by id software.

Do they require the bandwidth too? I try to play this game nearly everyday. Most of the times I get screwed due to the ping. How can I add you guys to my friend list?

can u gimme the names or the countries where we get 120ms on QL ?
i tried some aussie and some jap servers but the pings were sad or there were no players online.....
 
The Singapore server has gone live. some people might get good pings. I personally get 65 but many get above 130 which is still bad. check it out and see if it's any good for you.

Still hoping for something in India.
