Quake Live

it's shit. can't divulge any more info though. don't wanna get banned cuz i've agreed to an NDA.

i got an invite... 2 weeks back they expanded the playerbase and sent out a lot more invites to people. i got one then. mind you... i had signed up multiple email addresses about half an hour after QL public beta was announced.

i take back what i said about it sucking... it may be a lot of fun for casual players since it's quake 3 after all... just not very competition oriented at this point. however, Carmack's severely delusional if he really said that. million downloads.... hmm maybe. a playerbase of that scale just wont happen... especially when there are other free games like battlefield heroes coming soon which have very good mass appeal.

and virtual billboards for advertising.... hmmmm...... as if we don't get bombarded with enough in the real world ... !!!!!

quake 3 won't attract new players simply because the skill level of the current crop of players is way too high. most new players will find themselves getting owned and quit.. hopefully matchmaking may take care of this but the learning curve is still very steep compared to other games like battlefield heroes, tf2 and whatever other simplistic games are being played these days. i might be wrong though... only time will tell.

as of now i'm not too happy with or optimistic about Quake Live. they haven't even fixed the crap netcode that plagued default Q3 and that wouldn't have been very hard, considering that the CPMA team has already done it for them :S

i get very poor pings right now but i hear it's quite bad to play even at 100 ping. remember how we struggled online with OSP before CPMA took over?

+1 to that. i think quake live is gonna be revolutionary but the only thing thats gonna suck about playing it in india to play quake live is the pings/speeds that we get from our so called isps :(

unless railtel comes to our rescue next year with decent services/speeds. until then quake live is gonna be pretty much useless

You serious? Arrogant Carmack! So basically no improvements, which means it plays as bad as or worse than VQ3? True about new players getting owned and quitting in minutes lol.

well, then again... id is targeting people who don't care about stuff like netcode, weapon balance etc... i.e the noobs who will download a free game and play ffa. q3 can still be a fun game for a lot of people. unfortunately, a few people like us have gone too much into the competition part of it :P

there are a few improvements but they might be overshadowed by the shortcomings. however, it's still in beta and one can always hope i guess. i'm not though... id's goals are totally different from what the hardcore community wants to see imo.

My thoughts exactly... I still play Q3 (nowadays with bots :(). The problem is being the oldest Quake player in my office, nobody now plays with me. All my old friend from Quake days are now either out of India or busy with their own work life. We don't get to do lan parties like we did before.

I guess this is called being a victim of your own success. :P

Too bad... I hope hardcore quakers make themselves heard during the beta and force ID to improve on the core aspects of the game.

EU servers are full of cheaters or CA players (or both) so no chance to play here.

Well currently my online gaming is so much better ever since I moved to my new computer :).. I think there was a problem playing on the "fake" ethernet card I had installed on the Pentium 4 machine.. hence the lag issues I had. Is FS or CPMA(Indian servers) still there? yet to install HLSW... somebody update me please :D
