CPU/Mobo query abt Gigabyte 8I845GVM mobo

My friend has Gigabyte 8I845GVM mobo.... It is based on Intel 845GV chipset...

The problem is he is not able to set the Shared Video memory to anything greater than 8MB...

The Bios has only 2 options 4 MB and 8MB....

How to set the shared video memory to 64MB???

FYI: he has 512MB ram in his sys.
 
All Intel 845 mobo have Intel extreme and it can use upto 64 MB RAM.... thats what even Intel site tells... So there must be someway to use upto 64 MB...

If anyone has this mobo tell how much video RAM u are able to use...

In Intel 845 chipset we can have upto 64MB shared memory... But not able to.... anyway to increase the shared memory from Windows? or any tools to actually to find the maximium amount of shared memory that can be used??

Is there anyway to override the bios settings from windows?
 
No. I had a 845GLLY. That's the min. - 8MB. If u log onto Windows and check System Properties, u may see that it shares 32MB - Atleast, that's what happened in my case. Check System Properties and get back.
 
Even the system properties show that it is 8MB... Will the motherboard manufacturer lock the shared video memory to 8MB? What are the ways to unlock it if it is locked?
 
In the latest intel driver only.... even then still 8MB only... is there anyway to increase the shared memory from windows with any softwares??
 
The system has 512 MB ram.... so RAM is not a problem....

any software that cud help increasing from windows??

is there anyway to check how much video RAM is used when playing a game?? like minimising the game and checking any soft???
 
Intel extreme graphics uses dynamic video ram allocation. you can only set the minimum (8MB). If it needs more, it'll automatically allocate more. You don't need to specify anything!
 
But in my friends system the maximum that he is able to set in bios is 8MB..... minimum being 1MB. WHen he tries to play games like Max Payne it gives a message that the video memory present is only 8MB and that the game performance will be not good... but he is able to give ok and continue to the game.... But Rise of Nations refuses to start....

Update the video drivers. In any case if he wishes to play games, ask him to get atleast an fx5200. Most games don't support 845G/865G as it is.
 
i was telling him to get a gfx card... but his mobo doesnt have a AGP slot... so he's got to change the board too....
 
u can flash the bios then - thats the only option. but i guess as the elder guyz here said, if he really wants to enjoy some games, get him a new mobo with slot & pop in a cheap 6600 AGP. Asrock i45 motherboard is a good option for 1900/- with onboard gfx which will server ur this purpose plus a 6600 will be around 6200/-

so u get a nice descent gaming rig for gaming in almost 8000/-. not a bad deal ;)
 
This problem is finally solved.....

My friend installed win 2000 and now there is 64 MB shared video memory.... it seems that the video driver given for XP doesnt work properly on Win 2003 which was previously present...

anyway thanks guys for all the suggestion.....
 
^^ lol, thats what i was about to say...about the OS...my 865 could share upto 128MB with the latest drivers..sometimes the drivers just dont work:P
