Hi...
Im utterly confused here... its about the graphic eq settings. Now there are 3 places where i can adjust them on wmp, my sound card's graphic eq and on the music system to which my comp is connected. Now my question is should i be adjusting the graphic eq in all the 3 places or only on 1 of these places. Now i have tried a lot of combinations... and just can't decide for myself, coz the results keep varying over different sources, as a result im jumping all over the place trying to arrive at the perfect setting.

Mods: Din't know where else to post it... so move it if necessary.

Thanx

well you use the best setting possible using all 3 equalisers ... but dont equalize too much or else it will not sound good and you will end up changing settings again :)

Adjust on ur music system. The rest will probably screw up the signal pretty bad unless you have a parametric eq on an EMU class card.

@chaos
Could'nt you have just said :) a professional level sound card with an equalizer that offers you control both over the frequencies and give you finer degree of control.

@priyoban

the advice given by chaos is bang on target. Try to play around with the eq on the music system itself. It will probably give the best results.

thanx peeps... well the adjusting only the music system eq makes most sense i guess... always better to have hardware do it than software. And chaos i think was just trying to be particular about what he meant i guess... than saying something vague like "professional sound card"... am i right?

And is there a chance that i might damage the speakers on the music system if i adjust the freq on my comp and it is fed something beyond it's range?

Yes... so far the only card which I've seen has a usable eq is the EMU series. The others either don't come with one (my old M-Audio didn't) or don't have something that is useful - eg the XFi has a parametric eq but enabling it causes it to resample which sucks especially when you are resampling to a particular frequency in advance in software like I do. The foobar eq is pretty useless as well. A good option is to create the impulse and use convolver instead of the graphic eq in foobar.
