PC Peripherals Question on DDR3

hello guys,
i thought DDR3 only supported the new socket i.e the Core i7,but just found out that it supp. Core 2 Duo?is it true? can anyone shred me some light here?

Yes. DDR3 support is not decided by the Processor, but Motherboard. There are many LGA 775 mobos out there with DDR3 support. Only difference is that i7 based mobos use a Triple-Channel DDR3 architecture while LGA 775 (Core2Duo/Quad) based one's use Dual-Channel DDR3 as of now.
 
AFAIK, lot of Core2Duo/Quad based platforms have DDR3 compatible boards. 1 chipset that i have seen that is the P45.

MSI Neo Combo F has that feature of running DDR2 and DDR3 compatible rams. (not side by side though)

Intel Core 2 Duo processors never had memory controller on-chip so they can support DDR2 or DDR3 whichever is supported by motherboard. (That's why FSB comes in picture)

In contrast, Intel i7 processors and AMD processors have memory controller on-chip so they support either DDR2 or DDR3 (And here HyperTransport or QPI funda comes)

Check motherboard's specs and manual before going for it. :)
 
^To tell u the truth, i have started hating this word "Noob" and its variants. Heck, who gave you the right to call them like that ? It's become more of a abuse to these new guys.

If u gained knowledge with ur discussion with ur friend, neither of you are a Noob.

i dont call anyone a noob actually.most of my friends dont know much abt tech as much as i do and i have no prob with it.and i dont call them noobs,in fact just abt a yr ago i was a noob too!:)

Afaik, Core i7 does NOT support DDR2. Its strictly for DDR3.
 
Gigabyte EP45C DS3R supports DDR3 as well as DDR2 and is an Intel-based motherboard.
 
Many x48 / P45 chipset based boards have DDR3 (Dual Channel)slots .

Core i7 only uses DDR3 memory , and has the memory controller on the chip rather than the board itself .
