Question on LG Optimus 2x

Back with a question.. I had almost dropped the idea of getting the phone because of the estimated 30k price.. But now since LG's site itself lists the recommended price as 28k, hopefully it'd be available for 27k or so. Yet to see it anywhere online or any retail shops for sale though.

The question is regarding the RAM of the phone which is 512 Mb.. Considering most of the other dual core phones slated to be released have 768 Mb or 1 Gb RAM, how much of a handicap would this be on the O2X? 512 Mb might be alright for now, but would it become a bottleneck say after the newer releases of android? Thoughts?

the handicap is none. the apps or games aren't just demanding enough. unless a user is stupid enough to run 10 applications in the background, and start a new one on top of them.

Thanks mate..

How about auto sync of mails in the background while playing video/game on the phone? I agree that most probably this won't be an issue now, but considering the investment will the RAM suffice to run apps say 2 years down the line? (very hard to predict, I know)..

Over last 2 months I havent been here much, but I have gone through every imaginable mobile phone out there including Optimus 2X.

If you are considering this, there are few things you need to you.

1. Somone here said Android is not yet optimised for dual core processors. Well that is completely baseless. In fact Android is natively multithreaded. Its just that until now there were no dual core phones and thus the SMP mode was not enabled in the Linux kernel.

But Optimus 2X and all current dual core processor Androids ship with SMP mode enabled. So Android is natively using both cores even for simple productivity work.

2. Optimus 2X has some issues. Both major issues are related to sound / audio.

The speaker is weak. And I mean really weak. Good luck in crowds.

And even with Wolfson DAC, the audio output is bad. Its crappy for phone with such hardware.

The only good thing about this is the price. but its still hard to find in stores here.

Developer support should not be an issue considering Cyanogen is hooked onto this for now :P

But beware of the flaws.

If you want better multimedia device, hold on for SGS2. And if you are buying imported piece, I would suggest you buy ATRIX if you are ready to live with locked bootloader. First motorola phone in years that really impressed me. Beautiful phone, nicely built, good display and great sound output for a change from motorola. Or jump to SGS2.

And someone mentioned no HDMI for SGS2. Well it does have HDMI out via MHL adapter which should be available in june.
