I will be reaching Pune on Thursday morning by Hans travels bus which will drop me at Jehangir Hospital. I will need to take a flight to Chennai in the afternoon. Now, I know that the airport is at least 8 to 10 kms from the railway station. What would be the best way to reach the airport?

I have at least 5 hrs gap between reaching Pune and flight takeoff, so I can afford to go by city buses. The last I saw a couple of years ago, city buses were bad. But now I assume they must have improved. SO which city bus am I supposed to take, and from where?

Does the Pune airport have free Wifi? 'Coz if it does have free Wifi connection, I'll carry my laptop, else I can avoid the extra baggage. :P

I suggest you can call some taxi service (dial a cab types) rather than opting for the buses. Search for wings radio cabs

1) Buses are just as bad. Take an auto if you don't have too much luggage (expect to pay 150 bucks from Station to Airport, no one will go by meter) or call a radio cab (you'll end up paying a similar amount).

2) No free wifi at Pune airport as of Jan 2010 - not sure if it's been implemented since then (have my doubts).

Wifi is not free even in US airports.. free Wifi in Indian airport would be a distant dream

Mumbai airport had free wifi when I was there a year ago.

@ kunaldua & raks: So, it still is better to go by auto. I thought buses would have improved after seeing this site under construction: www.pmpml.org

Thanks for the quick input guys. Much appreciated.

^^ Under any condition dont opt for local buses. They are simply impossible. Take a auto, haggle for fare, or call a radio cab. will try to locate number for you.

Take a auto:

insist on going by meter.

Charges are : (Total meter units x 7) + 3

e.g.

Total Meter units = 10.6

10 x 7 = 70

0.6 x 7 = 4.2 = Rounded to 4

= (10.6 x 7) + 3 = 77 INR

Pay 3 Re tip if you will nothing beyond that.
