Graphic Cards Quick suggestion needed for a graphics card under 3K..!

Needed for a friend, the best graphics card that 3K +/- 500 bucks can buy.. Motherboard is Intel 945..dunno exactly what, but I believe it supports PCI-E cards.. Went through the itwares website.. a plenty of cards were within range, so pretty much confused. Please suggest..!
 
^^ the Palit 8600GT with 512mb of ddr3 is perfectly in your budget.

there are 2 deals in 'Dealers paradise' for 3550/- and 3600/-

do check them out.
 
So many votes for the 8600GT... But my friend doesn't want to spend anything more than 3K on a graphics card now. He isn't an avid gamer.

SO, any suggestions for a card under 3K??? The "+ 500 bucks" part in my first post stands cancelled..! ;)
 
The 8600GT 256MB DDR3 is quoted at a higher price (higher than the 512MB) at the itwares site.. :O

Does DDR2 and DDR3 make a lot of difference practically..? How about settling for one of these: Palit 9400GT Super - 512MB DDR2 - Super for 3075? Is it better than the 8500GT 512MB DDR2 suggested above?
Lastly, does the make of the card make any difference...? Among Palit, POV, XFX and MSI, which is preferred..?

Yes it does make lots of difference in 8600GT 512MB DDR2,this is reason behind cheap price,but 8600GT DDR3 512MB model is good like 256MB model,go for 8600GT DDR3 512MB.
 
8600G 512MB DDR3... at 3.5k

if nt affordable then go for 256MB DDR3 version which shall be cheaper since 512MB DDR2 available at 3.5k
