Pink Floyd founding member and keyboardist Richard Wright died on Monday following "a short struggle with cancer" at the age of 65, according to a note posted on the official Pink Floyd website.

"I really don't know what to say other than that he was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him," read a note posted on the blog of bandmate David Gilmour, who joined Pink Floyd in 1968. "And that's a lot of people. Did he not get the loudest, longest round of applause at the end of every show (during his tour with Gilmour) in 2006?"

The self-taught pianist and keyboardist will be missed. Listen below to four Pink Floyd songs featuring his work: "Astronomy Domine," with lead vocals by Wright; "Us and Them" and "The Great Gig in the Sky," both written by Wright; and "Fearless" from the album Meddle, believed to feature his compositional skills.

 :( :(

R.I.P Mr.Wright.

"Us and Them" is one of my favourite song from "The Dark Side of the Moon".

And we were eagerly awaiting the reunion. :'(

For me at least, You will live forever Richard. Thank you for all the wonderfulness you bestowed upon us.

A friend of mine penned together the perfect RIP message :

So long, good ol’ Rick,

Wish you were here

With Roger, Dave and Nick

Chilling with a beer,

Making music that gets me high.

Nobody can take your place

And fill up that empty space,

But I hear angels playing a great gig in the sky.

Far away across the field,

The tolling of the iron bell,

Brings the faithful to their knees

On hearing the sound of Gordon’s knell.

At least you can give Syd a hug, while your body in the ground will lay.

The time has gone, the song is over, thought I’d something more to say.

R.I.P. Richard Wright.

^^Lovely. RIP Richard Wright.

@aces: PF was *the* greatest rock band ever. their music is something that even a rock hater like my dad loves.

Stay, and help me to end the day.

And if you don't mind,

we'll break a bottle of wine.

One of my favourite songs sung by Rick Wright - from the album Obscured by Clouds.

Rest in Peace, Richard Wright. May your music ever live on. You were a part of one of my favourite bands ever.

Goodbye, cruel world,
Im leaving you today.
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.

Goodbye all you people,
Theres nothing you can say,
To make me change my mind.
Goodbye.

.....R.I.P!

RIP. I am die hard fan of Pink Floyd and I remember the show of Roger Waters in Bangalore in April-02 where public went crazy like any thing and people have come all the way from North Eastern States to see their favourite. The songs of 70s are unforgettable.
