RAGE - Discussion thread

Nextworld is reliable and many have bought games from them. The owner was a dealer here for a while.

I guess they said pre-order because the game hasn't released yet. They must be importing it since it's not officially releasing in India and that's why delay in shipping after it's release.

^^Weak story line.

8.5? I was expecting atleast a 9.0, even Borderlands scored 8.8.

Does look like a 9.0, but different reviewers, different opinions.

Somebody gave GTA 4 a perfect score too, which again attracted colorful comments.

Oh damn I was expecting 9'ish reviews. :(

Joystiq gave it a lowly 3/5.

Check out Ars' impressions:

The game is completely linear, so it's silly when the menu asks if you'd like to accept a quest or decline it. If you decline it, the game simply doesn't continue, so why would you say no? The open world is also a complete waste—it's only a space to drive across as you go from mission to mission, sometimes fighting a set number of enemy buggies for money. There isn't much reason to explore, so the driving sections feel like filler, something to break up the unsatisfying gunfights. The crafting system is likewise stapled on; just be sure to build the machines you need to unlock doors before you go on a mission and you're fine.

So, just to sum up my nine plus hours with the game so far:

No story to speak of

No characters that make an impression

Linear

Broken save system

Dull mechanics

Tedious quests

Weak shooting

Stock weapons

Racing is fun

Minigames are enjoyable

Very pretty

Verdict: Skip

Can't believe this shit! I was having high hopes for the game. :(

Just saw that both Borderlands and Rage were reviewed by Charles Onyett :S

At 60 USD it's expensive so I'll save mine. :)

How much is the PC version for here in India and where can I get it? I can only see the PS3/Xbox360 versions of the game on flipkart and intencity.

^^ For the last time people..."There is no OFFICIAL indian release...."

Yeah, the reviews are making me sad...

I hope it lives up to my expectations....nonetheless I will finish it atleast once,

if not for anything, but just for the love of Carmack and id.

And best of all, The PC version is beyond crap as per many users at steam forums..Too many issues!

Just checked it, LOL amazingly bad feedback!!

This is id Software, the pioneers of FPS PC gaming. Sad init?

Totally! The very fact that this has come from id's stables has left me flummoxed! And sad.

These almost make me cry:

Buggy and boring. Carmack will engage in self-love and and spend all his time making it run at 60fps on the 360 but he is such a weak leader that he cant hire a team of people to make an engaging game. Its not worth your money. id is only capable of making arena-style Q3 games where characters are nothing outside of their wacky names.…

Boring. Banal. ID fails to deliver either coherent story or strong gameplay. Carmack has lost his touch in pursuit of $$$ and no longer cares about making good games. Avoid this turd.

I registered an account here just to say how horridly iD and Bethesda botched the PC port of Rage. I have a system that is well above recommended specs with a very common ATI card and the texture draw in and framerate issues on launch are horrendous. How this game got out the door in this shape is a mystery to me, but now I would be curious to see it on my PS3. Perhaps PC users are no longer worthy of iD's effort in making a product that works on our platform? Sweet tap dancing cats, I hope there is one huge patch waiting for me tomorrow evening.

...Lucky you guys its NOT releasing here in India, saved you all alot of money, but I will still wait for the 7th with all the excitement.

BUt m happy with the following bits->

There are plenty of interesting personalities, although our hero himself takes the silent approach, and there’s more than enough narrative strength to keep you interested. The ending, unfortunately, doesn’t really resolve anything. RAGE is clearly designed as the first in a series, and not a stand-alone title.

Have you ever played a shooter and thought “Man, I wish this had all the stuff I like in my RPGs except that whole leveling thing?” If so, RAGE is for you! The game features just about everything you could expect out of an RPG, including loot, crafting, modifiable equipment, questing, and exploration (albeit this last one is reduced some by the game’s linear dungeons and simple over-world). All sorts of weird items can be found in the world of RAGE, from vendor trash to crafting components

Getting back to the races mentioned above: while RAGE plays like a shooter first, the vehicles are an integral part of the game. There are three vehicle classes, which basically boil down to light, medium, and heavy. In the over-world you want to go with whatever vehicle you have that’s currently the heaviest armored and armed (to kill bandit vehicles), but in races the vehicle and weapons available are stipulated by the event type. The off-road nature of the game’s design makes the racing feel similar to MotorStorm, although the battles and rallies are closer to something you would find in Twisted Metal.

Fortunately for RAGE, it still has quite a bit of content. The campaign lasted me 14.5 hours, and while I did spend a good amount of time sampling the available side content, I didn’t complete all of the races or nearly all of the side-quests. Completing everything should take a solid 18 hours or so, and it’s certainly worth doing given the high quality of RAGE’s available distractions.

RAGE is an auspicious start to a great new franchise and worthy of id Software’s incredible history.

....I think I am the only one hoping it lives up to iD.
