Since Monsoons arrived & since last 2-3 years I didn't had a proper raincoat. I was wondering is there any good products out there.. Few years ago I had one from a Chinese brand called Rhino. It was pretty good & 100% waterproof even at the front where the zipper goes... Sadly my brother took it without my permission & lost it..:@

Then I got another cheapo raincoat which is not fully waterproof as water seeps in from zipper & even from the neck... So I want something good... My budget is 1k max for this. I usually do not use the lowers which comes with the raincoat but just the jacket & it should be comfortable.

What are your opinions & suggestions regarding this. Where to get a good quality rain coat. Brands or no brands as long as its good... What do you prefer or use..

Single piece ones are out of the questions 'coz they are quite uncomfortable..

what you are talking about is a wind cheater... it is complete useless if you wear one without protection for your pants on a bike though.

as for budget... i would suggest buy a good one.

the cheapo ones work for a year or two before water starts penetrating through the stitching.

had purchased one from Versace around 10yrs ago which lasted me for 8yrs.. water never penetrated from stitches however long I was in the rain. the cheapo ones generally hold for a couple of hours in continuous rain.

also do not buy those with too much padding... these kind start smelling if the stitching is not good and do not dry up soon rendering it useless for frequent use.

Just to help the OP, I have no idea whatsoever about Raincoats, but I can easily guess than an authentic versace will easily set you back 20-30k or more.

In fact, any branded raincoat will cost a minimum of 2-5k I would guess.

So in a sub 1k budget you can go for local stuff from Palika and stuff and it should probably last one season.

I recollect purchasing this one for less that 1k 10yrs ago.

fake indeed if price is supposed to be that high..but then I would really prefer fakes of these quality..

Even at 5-7k I can guarantee it has to be a fake if it is from Versace, even at 10-12k I would have my doubts. 15-20k is still understandable.

Just to give you an idea, a shirt from Versace costs like 10-20k or more.

I cannot get Versace for sure...

@mdnav. Its not wind cheater but specifically raincoats. They are also called Rain Jackets. The ones with rubberized/ PU quoting at the back to avoid water. During heavy rain windcheater does not work though a lot of people still use them instead of raincoats.. Windcheater is a completely different thing & its for a different purpose...

He's talking about something he purchased a decade ago!

The prices for designer stuff has only decreased with time, not increased. Versace used to cost some $300-400 for a shirt 10 years back, and it still costs the same. Just that more people can afford it now.

i got one from ulhasnagar for 400 bucks in 2008, some local brand, still tip top, i travel by bike everyday, no complaints so far.

@hailstone, I feel your best bet in your budget will be Duckback. Go to any duckback delaer in your area as local shop are less likely to keep it because of low margins. In mumbai another famous brand in this budget is relief, but best quality in 1k budget is I think Duckback.

In Mumbai there is one duckback distributor in Fountain area and another in mohd. Ali Road, dealing exclusively in duckback products. You may try local shop in your area as well.

Flora Fountain near Kala Ghoda ?

address would be great, would be going for lens shopping at fort soon so I may as well take a look around :)

+1 for Duckback. I have been a fan of Duckback raincoat for last 15yrs. Their style quotient may be non-existent but utility wise they have high rating. Also there is a good possibility of getting smell of rubber if it is not dried properly and used. For long term storage, I usually dry the rain coat under shadow and apply copious amount of talcum powder. That way it does not smell.

I been using a Lee one for abt ~1.5 years. costed abt 3~5k. not sure. Very good qlty. and comfortable. Enough padding. Extremely good.

Me too a happy duckbag user. Got the raincoat for 860 bucks. My previous duckbag raincoat lasted me 4 seasons.

I'm looking for a decent raincoat which can be bought online. I checked eBay but the ones listed there are too expensive (~5k) and take 2 weeks to ship from US.

Any idea where I can buy a decent raincoat online (which ships quickly).

^.. Yesterday I was in Adidas & they have Buy 1 Get 1 Free scheme running.. There were few good Rain Jackets with PU undercoat selling for 2499/- & you can get another article upto 2499/- free..
SO basically 50% off if you make the right purchase...
