I am getting myself
Gigabyte G31M-S2L
E7200/E7300 (one of them)

I am not into OC and intensive gaming. I may not require very high end RAMs as I would not be utilizing it's power. For value RAM for average users, what is recommended Transcend or Corsair. I am leaning towards Corsair Valueselect series for it's low cost, excellent warranty, good after sales service by Kobian.

Also, I would be buying a 2*2Gb for utilizing dual channel architecture. Does valueselect series also have their Twin packages?

Both of them are really good with the Transcend being a little cheaper than Corsair..

AFAIK,Both have 2*2gb kits...

Corsair:

VS4GBKIT667D2 - PC2-5300 - 4GB Kit - 5-5-5-15 - 240pin DIMM (667mhz!)

VSA4GBKITFB667D2 -PC2-5300 -4GB Kit - 5-5-5-11-240pin FBDIMM(667mhz!)

Transcend:

JM4GDDR2-8K -4 GB - 2GB DDR2-800 module x2 - 240Pin(800mhz!)

So its your call !

What about warranty information about Transcend RAMs - Corsair has 10yrs warranty - in real world only 5 yrs would suffice to me. But overall their after sales has been talked about in kind words

Also, can anyone post the cost difference?

The info about TAG/Corsair was just a rumor as confirmed by the various dealers of our forum. So I am not quite worried about it. I guess if the difference is below Rs. 500, I may just stick to Corsair. I have had a good experience with Corsair's RMA for their USB drives. I am assuming that they will follow the same service for their RAMs too.

Check this out...

Transcend has a lifetime warranty for their ram modules..

but is limited to 3yrs in india !

TTM, I suppose you've understood that thread was a total POC. :)

As for lifetime warranty,

A lifetime warranty is a guarantee on the lifetime of the product. This is not to say that the product is guaranteed for the lifetime of the consumer. This type of warranty is generally assessed on a case by case basis by the distributor and the supplier. For instance, a backpack that has been purchased ten years ago and has some minor defects due to wear and tear may not be covered. However defects due to construction may be covered.

Corsair has an excellent and undisputed customer service. They should follow suit for RAMs as well.

Go ahead with Corsair. :)

I was under the impression that Corsair does not have 4GB Kits in the Valueselect range. Someone please confirm this.

And if you still need confirmation...

Welcome to Corsair :: Value Select Product Information

^ Oops - sorry, was not paying attention I guess.

Would the speed difference between 667MHz and 800Mhz justify the extra price one pays for the XMS series?

Just get 2 xms sticks of 2gb ddr2 800 iirc they were for 1.9k in the dealers section which is 300 bucks more than transcend but I guess its worth the differance if you can cough up the money..

Sorry but I don't money to cough just for the sake of it :)

Unless the extra speed justifies the 1K that it demands (for 2*2Gb), I would not be buying it. As i said before I am not into any hardcore gaming, OCing or number crunching. It's a regular HTPC kind of a system with occasional gaming.

AFAIK,it will only matter in an AMD based system but YOURS ISN'T !
So no prob in getting a 667mhz ram module..

And if you CAN afford the XMS,you get a better 800mhz OC'able ram module..

So it's upto you....

Then stick with the 4GB ValueSelect kit !

Or save a little more by getting the Transcend kit..

These are the only two options ...

unless, you change you mind again !?

Thanks guys - looks like I will stick with the valueselect range. ITwares does not have kits but i am assuming even 2 * 2Gb sticks would get the job done. Is there anything special about the kits that these companies market?

not really, they'll just be the EXACT same modules(chips, latency) packaged for a dual channel setup...

Separate 2GB modules will work flawlessly! Just make sure they have the same specs and you'll experience DUAL CHANNEL effortlessly !

Over n out...
