Ram compatibility with Ryzen 5800x / 3900XT

Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade to Ryzen 5800x or 3900xt w/ B500 or X570 mobo for workstation needs. I've 2 x Gskill 16GB dimms ( F4-3000C16S-16GVRB CL16-18-18-38 1.35V )
Will these be compatible or do I need to upgrade these as well ?

3000 mHz is kind of slow for Ryzen but those are CL16 RAM. RAM should work. Also RAM compatibility depends on motherboard and not the processor

How much bottleneck are we looking at before it becomes absolute necessary to change the ram? At this juncture if it turns on and work without any visible lags would be ok. I can then plan the upgrade in parts.

I have 5800X. I had Adata Xpg Gammix 2800MHz RAM and I overclocked that to 3200MHz to pair with Corsair Vengeance 8GB stick (that was downclocked to 3200Mhz, from it's 3600MHz rated speed. Had to use like this for few days as I was buying components based on offers and cash availability.

There was minor difference in benchmarks and in productivity app.

I now have two Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz sticks and there is barely any difference between 3200MHz and 3600MHz.

You can continue with 3000MHz RAM for now. Suggest to go with pair of 3200MHz RAM. This is the sweetspot for 5800X.
This may help you

get a 3200mhz kit and oc it to 3600mhz or get 3600mhz and tigthen the timing. I personally have Corsair Venganes and Crucial Ballistix kit for my 3900x and 5900x.

Thanks guys
I was worried that whether incompatibility will let the pc boot or not !!

What I've understood is that I should be looking at a performance hit of 2-5% . Still, that will buy me time to arrange next upgrade when prices stabilizes.

How much did you get 5900 for ? Was following AMD India twitter and seems they had earlier posted it would be around 41k+. But market price is around 58k .. which is a huge jump from 5800x

I got it for 53k shipped back end. Was going to wait for the demand to dry but then the news came in and so got it for what it was listed. it was avaialble for 49.6k or so which is the listing price with gst but that time cash crunch stopped me from the purchase.

For workstation application, go for a Motherboard that supports ECC memory. Ryzen supports it. I think I saw an ATX MOBO @ primeabgb for 25k.
