guys!!!help needed plz,
i have a performance questions regarding one of my work rigs-
its a p4D 2.8 based on a intel original 945G cl motherboard with onboard graphix,
the mobo has only two memory slots-but i got three RAM sticks-
2-512MB DDR2 667 MHz sticks &
1-1GB DDR2 533 MHz stick, so my question is whether the performance will be better with 2*512 sticks (dual channel-higher clock speed) or
with one 1GB stick and one 512MB stick @533Mhz(higher ram capacity but lower clock speed-no dual channel mode)
i am using the rig for CAD (autocad 2005) and some basic PS work,
sorry for the noobish question!!!!!! help needed!!!!:ashamed:
thanx in advance!!!!:hap2:

Obviously 1.5GB RAM will be better than the 2x512MB ones even though u cannot run them in Dual Channel mode; :)

my asus p5ld2-vm se runs 1.5gb ram in dual channel- calls it asymmetric mode!:bleh:

@gannu/nfsfan-wht bout RAM clockspeed????how much do they affect performance in real world times???? i mean the now the rated RAM speed is 533Mhz against the possible 667Mhz @ 1gb:huh:
thanx for ur fast replies by the way, repped u both!!!!!:hap2: :D

Well slight performance difference b/w the 667 and 533;

Not very noticeable as such; BTW are u intending to run in Dual Channel mode??

run 1.5Gb, the increase in performance due to more RAM is much more than the slight hit in not running in dual channel mode ;)

Dual Channel doesn't boost much of performance.
It's better to have more head than more heat!......don't know what it means but clicked in head!:ashamed: LOL...

The whole idea is, get 1.5GB, surely have better performance than a dual channel 1GB.

Get more ram instead of dual channel , since you do cad related work .. more ram will definitely be better .

+1
Dual channel real life performance is like 2-3% more over single channel.
More ram would definitely be better.

For the job you are doing as mentioned by you, here quantity of RAM will be very much contributing factor. Go for higher quantity than Dual Channel mode.
