Need to know how much 2gb and 4gb RAM DDR would cost??need it for bf2,was shocked to see tht my 6600gt was capable of playing bf2:S in high settings and it's my ram tht's holding me back.:@

So would like to know the prices..as it is crucial for my survival in the battlefield.

4gb ram on system rnt possible presently i guess....windows 32 bit causes errors becoz of it......max u can go is for 3gb..........

correct me guys if i m wrong

well running 4gb succesfully 24/7 is better with nvidia nforce4 x16 chipset only means asus a8n32 dfi expert etc etc..
dunno bout windows memory haandling issues.

GO for 2 GB. You are getting UCCC 1 GB sticks for abt 4.8K in the market. Dunni abt B;lore though.

monkey, first read dip's post called Memory: Is more always better?

RAM latency/timing matters more than just the size... let me tell you what I found - I had 2*Kingston HyperX 1GB kits (that's 4*512mb) running in dual channel mode at 2-3-2-6-2T. I faced no issues and the performance rocked with all applications I use for recording and web designing. Games also ran better after I replaced my transcend 2*512MB (2.5-3-3-7)with these HyperX kits.

However, recently I decided to upgrade to DDR2 RAM and sell my HyperX kits... I removed 1 HyperX kit from my pc after putting it up for sale, but didn't see a major performance drop because the 2*512mb kit was now running @ 1T (4*512mb can only do 2T). I didn't stop at that and tried improving the timings and was able to drop it to 2-3-2-5 (couldn't do it when I had all 4 sticks installed). Things have been stable since then and performance-wise, it's like I'm still using 2GB :P

Final words... get 2*512MB or 2*1GB "low latency" RAM - adding more RAM with timings like 2.5-3-3-6 is not going to make a big difference.

That is why I said UCCC 1 GB sticks. 2 x 1 GB UCCC.

You can do 270+ at 3-4-4-8. They are the best in India as of now.

Or get Micron. I heard Micron -5BD is available in Bangalore. Dont ask me where :P COntact Sunnyboi or Vignesh. Vignesh bought a few sticks and sent it to Sunny in Mysore.

These Micron can do 2-2-2-5 at 200Mhz.

2GB DUDE UR SCARING ME!! :( i just got my new system with 1 gb of ram :(
Dada tum log jyada ghabrate ho... I think this is the 10th time u've been scared on TE.....daarpoke:ohyeah:

2 gigs is always good, but its the low latency ram u should be looking at
lemme give u an example this -
I've used 2 gigs (2*1GB) of tranny and also 512*2 of corsairs 3200xl. now while I never benchy, i do notice even subtle changes in performance....
I found the 1 gig memory (owing to its ultra low latencies) to be hyper fast in fact i'd say around 5-15% faster than the 2 GB under most conditions
Maybe in stuff like vid encoding 2 gigs was more needed because i use avid which uses around 700 MB ram when it starts and around 1300~1600 MB while encoding...
For gaming right now 1 gig would be sufficient i feel. But if u got the cash to burn...well...
4 gigs is a stark overkill right now...

try BF2 lol 1gb is not enough :P

hehe considering I have some 6+ gigs of ram spread across 3 PC's now...I think BF 2 is a tad slow for me memory wise...
in DDR 400 i have
512*4 corsair tccd (3200xl)
2*1 gig transcends (SS UCCC)
512*2 kingstons
DDR2
667Mhz kingston value 512*2
1 gig transcend 533 MHz
but i understand ur point....BF 2 is even a bigger memory hog than our GF 1 here on TE ;)

Well, thx for the replies guys, but I would like to know is how much would it cost..you know wht's the price for Micron 1gb sticks and is there any other brand other than UCCC?

brand is only transcend but there are 2 types of them 1 is with micron chips and the other is with Sumsung UCCC chips
both price is same 9,000 for 2gb.

Yeah get the Micron chips. I have them and love them :D. They reach 270 at 3-3-3 and do tight 2.5-2-2 upto 230 or so and 2-2-2 at 200.

I paid like 8.9k ( 4% VAT included ) for two Transcend 1GB sticks (Micron chips on BrainPower PCB).

OT - Chaos what vdimm did u feed to get it to 270?

Generally never go beyond 2.8V for 5BD chips. There's no real benefit. I was running them 24/7 at 260 at 2.8V until I got the UCCC. Dropped it to 240 after that at 2.6V
