RAM prices have been high for sometime now... I bought 2 X 2GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 (800MHz) for 4.1k a couple of weeks ago.

its going up and up,

and expected to go up

todays Bangalore price is 2.2k for 2 GB

they are expecting it to move up as they say ram chips are not available as most manufacturers concentrating on flash cards

It'd keep increasing at a slow pace as DDR2 eventually phases out, same as the trend followed by DDR RAM. Not due to Diwali. And as we speak, DDR3 prices keep falling as most upcoming platforms has switched/switch to DDR3 modules.

getting 2 gb 800mhz ddr2 @1.6k from lamington road !
is this due to diwali?

which brand ??? :O 1.6k is cheap !! if transend / kingston buy it if u wanna....i was quoted 1950 2days back fro 2gig transend 800mhz

Nope RAM prices has risen considerably in the last 2-3 months. Mostly due to DDRII and DDRIII transition and also other factors. Most places a 2GB 800MHz DDRII Transcend/Kingston costs 1.9-2k now!!!! So if you wand DDR-II RAM then buy it soon.

1.6K is still cheap, and you purchase it..I am getting huge quotes for ram & the dealer said prices will reamin the same or may increase atleast till december.

Does anyone know if the RAM prices are going to drop any time soon? I bought a cheapo Dynet DDR2 667 1 GB stick for Rs. 550/- under warranty a month or so ago and now Delta Peripherals is quoting exactly _twice_ the amount for the same stick. Will they drop after the holiday season? I need more RAM but simply can't afford it at this rate.

That sucks. Now all RAM costs the same amount. It's patently ridiculous. Does this mean we should just wait until DDR3 RAM becomes common? Will the rates for that ever match what DDR2 used to be?

^^i'm sure they gonna be....but till then may be we'll have to spend more for ddr2 else sit quietly till the fate changes .

^^i said "getting" not "got"...BTW the prices are that of lamington road.
when i visited lamington road ..i made a list of the prices of some proccys and mobo's in which none of them^^ got written:(
but the price difference is that of RAM only. i'm sure it wouldn't effect the prices of proccy and mobo:)
