Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Completed Quest for Booty and I really enjoyed the title. Short and sweet!

As soon as I fired up the game & the menu music began, it sounded so much like the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. I knew I was in for a treat. Then we got a small little intro which was nicely narrated by Petey. The story continued with Ratchet and Talwyn heading out to seek Captain Darkwater, who probably is the only person with the expertise of knowing how to contact the Zoni. So with the Pete leading the way, we head off to Hoolefar Island, where the Mayor of the island reveals a certain secret which would be useful to find Clank. Won't reveal much, but the game mainly centers around us trying to locate certain crucial parts which would eventually help us trace Clank's location.

The first few levels would just be platforming, as Ratchet's weapons are lost during their rough landing on Hoolerfar. You'll eventually get back your weapons and then blast off the pirates. The only noticeable change to the gameplay was the tether wrench, wherein you could pull objects using your wrench, which turns into a lighting style grabbing leash. Everything else was pretty much the same. Graphics looked really vibrant on the island. Insomniac also added The Walker, which is a mech bearing small resemblance to one of the enemies in Resistance: FoM (Widowmaker I think?). I love how they have knitted the puzzles and blended it so perfectly with the whole diverse environment. The cut-scenes which were narrated by Pete & Slag were hilarious. This game has a great sense of humour.

Enjoyed every bit of it. Hope to start Crack in Time in the coming few weeks. This series is darn addictive. :D

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

So I am not the only one who felt the OST of Quest for Booty had a POTC touch to it. :P

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

BTW Ethan bhai, the mini-review is awesome as always. :D

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Fantastic deal Jojo. You'll enjoy the game. Get the rest of the 2 titles too if you can. Playing them in order would keep you in sync with the storyline. :)

Played crank in time for couple of hours and its quite decent the puzzles are quite easy I'm into 5 hour into the game and I must say the cinematics in the game are of top notch

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

I'm at the exact same spot. I just completed the Bronze round. Now off to complete the rest 2. :D

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

This is on behalf of my son:

I am currently playing Ratchet&Clank Size Matters PSP. I'm stuck in Challenge mode and cannot defeat Otto.I have got the RYNO, Optical Maser Array, and Titan Electro Rocket v.4. Every effort of mine is going waste, and I'm going bankrupt buying ammo. Please help me. It's been a month!

Someone help the kid pls !!

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Hi archat, since I don't own a PSP, I'll just post an extract from the GamFAQ boards:

"Otto attacks you in 3 different ways - a low shockwave, a high shockwave and

clapping his laser hands on you. Jump over the low shockwave, duck to avoid the

high shock wave, and double jump to avoid the clapping hands.

You may opt to use the Laser Tracer, but that weapon is VERY hard to aim at a

moving target, and you can't move whilst using it, so do whatever you need to

do to get him down to half health, but once he is, the fight will only get

harder.

Now he'll throw spark bombs at you, and his hand clapping turns in to fist

punching, but you should still double jump to avoid the fists as you did to

avoid the hands. His shockwave attack is now a triple shockwave. He throws 2

lows and one high in 2 seconds, so be quick to jump over the first two and then

duck.

Otto no longer has his shield, and he won't run around like a spaz anymore, so

just keep hitting him and he should eventually die. If you are constantly

dying, try and use sheilds."

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Completed 'A Crack in Time' a few minutes back. Storyline absolutely rocked in this game. It was very detailed and well narrated. The opening of the game where Quark explains the events of the previous 2 games was dam funny. The core gameplay remained the same, only this time, traveling from one planet to the next wasn't the same as ToD. Here you need to collect Zoni's to upgrade your ship to cross some barriers of the planets you travel to. You have options to explore smaller planets to get gold bolts, Zoni, weapons upgrades etc. You also have a new weapons vendor this time; Grummelnet. The best part about purchasing a new weapon is that you get a nice (and funny) video tutorial, previewing the weapons abilities. Some of the old weapons make a comeback, while a boat load of new weapons have been added too. Although, not everyone of them are useful, but after max upgrades they are fun to play around with. Your weapon slot now has 2 circular grid in which you can assign almost every weapon you have collected. My favourite ones were; Mr. Zurkon and Rift Inducer 5000. The latter is obtained very late in the game. But nothing could compare to the likes of Nano Swarmers in ToD.

Cut-scenes were splendidly animated and of high quality. Voice overs were absolutely fantastic. There was a great deal of emotional storyline, which really brought out the best in the game. Quark was a comical relief, as was Dr. Nefarious (though he wasn't intended to). Clank's missions really stood out in this game. Unlike ToD, where it was merely warping into the Zoni-ridden dream land, this was more challenging and puzzle based. Boss Fights were really good. The difficulty spiked right after I reached Nefarious's Space Station. Over-all, I found the game to be highly entertaining. Now the wait begins for 'All 4 One'. :D

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Quick question - how lengthy is the third part? Tools of Destruction was pretty lengthy IIRC.

Will begin this one after I am done with WET. Need to quickly complete the PS3 backlogs now. :P

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

I clocked around 12 hours. It would vary, if you ought to gather all the Zoni and explore the planets for enhancing your weapons, which really isn't required.

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

^That's fair enough. I wouldn't do the exploration part either. I generally enhance about a couple of weapons or three at the most since I tend not to use the rest during combat anyway. :P

Will begin the title tomorrow.

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Had some progress yesterday. The new gameplay mechanics involving Clank and the Chronosceptor to manipulate time is pretty cool. It took me a while to get adapted to the puzzles but eventually it turned out to be fun. It seems like these puzzles can also be bypassed? With the help of Azimuth, defeated a boss and now Clank continues his journey with his caretaker. :D

The game has some hilarious one-liners. Loved this one from Clank after defeating the mini-boss in the previous chapter - 'One hypersonic brainwave scrambler... scrambled!'

Had a marathon session yesterday evening and completed the title. The most recent game save file reads 8 hours and 12 minutes for the total gameplay time - that's pretty short! This is undoubtedly the best game among the Future trilogy - the next title 'All 4 One' which is slated for release on October 18th marks the start of a different storyline. :)

As far as the game goes, it portrayed some of the best storyline narrations, voice acting and visuals while retaining the platforming elements from the previous titles. Clank's puzzles which involves the time manipulations were the best of the lot albeit there were hardly 6 or 7 such sequences. I wish there were more of such sequences. It doesn't warrant an IQ of 150 (Braid anyone?) to solve them either, although Insomniac has included a bypass option for those who feel frustrated with the puzzles. No part of the game felt repetitive; be it collecting Zonis to upgrade the Aphelion to cross certain barriers in the universe or RYNO V schematics - each planet was different from one another.

The game offers further replayability by unlocking an additional ending by defeating Lord Vorselon, after all the Zonis are collected. That would further lengthen the gameplay but I couldn't be bothered. Will wait for 'ALl 4 One' now. :D

Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One - Discussion Thread

Roc2R.jpg

Synopsis

The game takes place after the events of A Crack in Time, and follows main characters Ratchet, Clank, Captain Qwark and Doctor Nefarious, respectively the protagonist, deuteragonist, tritagonist and antagonist of the series. The game takes place when an evil plan set in motion by Nefarious to destroy his three archnemeses once and for all backfires, sending the four of them into the snare of a mysterious machine known as the Creature Collector. Now, they are forced to work together and cooperate in order to escape from the machine and get back home.

So, the game is out, but I guess it is easy to overlook in all the U3, MW3, BF3, Skyrim and Batman: AC hype. I am posting this now so that people might want to co-ordinate purchase dates and co-op sessions.

I am look for people to play the game with.

PSN ID: entraaa

Preferred Character - Qwark

Times of play - Almost any time on weekends. (7:00 AM Saturday - 7 AM Monday, IST) Weekdays - (7:00 AM - 11:00 AM IST - almost unworkable I guess?)

When - Maybe starting on the weekend of the 11th November? It depends on who else is interested I guess.

Let me know when (and if) people want to play.

A copy retails for almost 2.5k! :( I am assuming you'd have this title maybe until December end? I might grab one during the year-end if I can find it for a lesser price.

PS: Merged the thread with the older one since there were some older posts based on All 4 One.
