Marco - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt29383379/ - 4/10

Mindless violence without any story or screenplay. Malayalam movies are slowly moving towards these type of genres. Some of the scenes are sadistic.
A 6 year old child's is killed by the antagonist with a cooking gas cylinder by bashing his head with it and a pregnant woman fetus is pulled out alive. These scenes are explicitly shown in the film.
This movie however has joined the 100 crores collection club. Seems like the young Malayalam movie audience are shifting towards violent movies.
Marco can be watched fully by North Korean soldiers only. We can't completely see it. I left it in the middle.
Malayalam movies since last 5 years are so have become my go to watch list because they are catering to audiences who like thrillers, comedies, detective story of movies. Malayalam movies lately have become a feast to pan India audiences. Thriller or detective movies are never made in Tollywood.

The Brutalist (2024) - 8/10
Adrien Brodys performance as Hungarian Holocaust survivor is visually stunning and this is a epic historical drama.

Conclave (2024) -7/10
Ralph Fiennes delivered a performance that was nothing short of masterful as a cardinal in Vatican while Stanley Tucci delivers a compelling performance as a progressive and outspoken cardinal.
Recently also saw the Brutalist in theatres, though I missed out on IMAX
I had read that the runtime is a bit too much with unnecessary scenes but honestly felt the pacing to be much better than a lot of films.
Adrien Brody's acting and the visuals on the other hand, too good to pass on.

Watched Ponman and Batla House over the weekend.

Ponman is a good thriller. Deals with themes of some social practices in parts of Kerala, not otherwise shown frequently. Good pacing and nothing irrelevant.

Batla House has a good story. But performances were not great and pacing was off too. The dramatisation of the real events is not the best. A decent watch nevertheless.

Rewatched Sivaji over the last week. At this point in time, I find that the excesses of Shanker, far too excessive. Better than most mass commercial movies of recent times, but it's a mass movie at the end of the day.

Electric State : 2/10
With crap like these, I am not longer worried about reviving Marvel. The bros will ensure that it's buried deep and remains there. Happy to be proven wrong.
It's kinda sad to see these were the same guys, who gave us The Winter Soldier, over 10 years back. They should hang up their boots and start philanthropy. The world will thank them.

Companion - 7/10 - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26584495/

A good thriller/slasher movie with good screenplay and story. The movie starts slowly and moves fast pace after initial 20 minutes. Nothing new as we would have seen many movies like this but this one is little different in the approach towards writing and screenplay with some dark comedy spilled over. Also if you would like to watch do not watch the trailer as you will know what to expect.

  • Ayla: The Daughter of War: An absolutely heartwarming and deeply emotional film. The bond between Süleyman and Ayla felt genuine and left a lasting impression, I cried at the end. A solid movie great acting by a kid, 9/10
  • Hacksaw Ridge: A solid movie with powerful acting and an inspiring true story. The war sequences were intense, a strong 7/10.
  • Unbroken 2014: An incredible story of resilience and survival. I appreciated the grit and determination shown, though it didn’t have eventful ending. I'd say it’s a 7.5/10.
