^I believe it is since a lot of mice these days come with 500 to 1000hz polling rates as default, without the need for drivers or changing usbport.sys
In fact there are even many other software alternatives to change polling rates of a mouse without having to restart in safe mode or mess with that file. there's a CPL polling rate tool floating around somewhere. try it out if your mouse can handle it.
