Reliance is offering unlimited mobile Internet for only Rs 999 per month with no download limit.
This disruptive offer, has signaled another round of data tariff war within the Indian telecom industry.

This new data plan from Reliance would be initially rolled out in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune effective November 27, 2014. Other major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata will also be covered under this plan very soon. Customer of Reliance CDMA network can opt for this plan. Previously the Reliance CDMA offered a download speed of 3.1 mbps, however, with it upgraded pro 3 network, customers can get speeds of upto 14.7 mbps!

Gurdeep Singh, chief executive (consumer business) at Reliance Communication has categorically stated that this is not a promotional, attention grabbing plan with terms and conditions in between. The user who has opted for this unlimited mobile internet plan can download “100 GBs for Rs 999 without fear of a bill shock at the end of the month”.

He
said that this plan “was not a promotional offer in disguise to grab data customers in key markets. We are here for the long haul and plan to extend this offer nationally in all key markets.”

Singh further said that this new attractive plan was mainly targeted for those, who are “dissatisfied with their current data speeds or the quality of indoor coverage.”

Specialists are speculating that Reliance is ramping up it’s customer’s base ahead of the much-acclaimed 4G Internet launch next year. Initially, they are targeting all the heavy mobile Internet users, and there can’t be any better bait than offering unlimited internet for Rs 999.

Last time i checked, i was getting minimum 1-1.5mbps speeds on Evdo.. So may be we'll get 2mbps now i guess?

Anyone have any insight into this?

If the service and speed is that good, I could just replace my bb connection with a 3g dongle

They have been throttling users for quite some time now. I used to get 3Mbps but since quite some time now, everyone I know have been getting exactly 1Mbps and no more.
So I don't know how this is gonna be useful unless they can guarantee better speeds.

Without FUP, come on; once this plans get wide acceptance they are sure to cap it! Reliance giving wake up calls to BSNL EVDO?

Will wait and watch. For now I am happy with BSNL EVDO. But if Reliance can offer better speeds, I may make the switch. Otherwise I get good speed(150-250kB/s) at lesser price presently.

With introduction of this plan, the hitherto reliable reliance cdma data network will also go to dogs. These companies do not upgrade their Network infrastructure to meet the extended demand.

I have this.
i wanted to try it out first so i opted for the cheapest unlimited plan which is 444/month with 3gb @ a post-fup speed of 144.
I live in Indiranagar, Bangalore btw.
So far it's a mixed bag. signal strength keeps varying a lot (it goes anywhere between a full five bars to zero).
in torrents it climbs upto 200kbps and then crashes down to like 4-5kbps and starts over.
the dongle was 1k (zte). it has decent wifi (its a stable 4 bars at 15 feet through 2 walls)
the connection becomes worse the further the dongle is from the window.
if i hook it up directly to the pc (which is the room furthest away from the window facing the street) the connection cuts out often and torrents don't cross 30 kbps.
the best config i've managed is to use the wall-plug adapter and plug the dongle closest to the outside and then use the wifi to download off it.
all in all - it work's fine for some browsing and maybe a little youtube but it's very dependent on network strength. not worth it for me.
my bsnl mobile connection gives better speeds so i'm going to try them out next since only reliance and bsnl have unlimited 3g plans for under 1k/month.[DOUBLEPOST=1433919528][/DOUBLEPOST]

I used to use the 750 Unlimited BSNL EVDO plan in Kolkata. The high speed tower was present nearby my house and hence did not have too much of a problem with speed. But during the last few months, they had some problem with connectivity. I could login into the service but no page opened. A friend of mine went to the zonal head office of BSNL. They told him that they had some problems in their internet backbone but that was fixed the previous week. Both of us stopped recharging and took cable internet.
