most of the audiophiles wud be having realtek as onboard, but might not have used it even once[might be using better card].
They can always try it by removing their favorite cards for some hours:D

so true :P i dont even know which onboard sound card i have in my home pc.

Il check if its an HD version and will try this. a mini-review is on its way :)

as said in my earlier post, i thought the sound quality had improved a little. i felt the bass had gotten a bit tighter.

i compared the sound with my vista installation a few times after that. but now i feel there is no difference at all. i guess it was just the 'placebo' effect early on.

man, i do miss my old SB live card.

@sato1986: waiting for your review

I never used any sound card so far - not an audiophile - although i saw one of friend using an yamaha sound card on his p3 machine and I felt the difference of a sound card and onboard sound.

after installing this driver mode - i see bit clearity in while playing mp3 ,louder sound. I have not checked the bass - since i am using an old stereo speaker which bass is broken. can someone post a list of some EAX games so that we can try and feel the difference

Any good effect on dts connect output ?

mine is p35-dq6 mobo with onboard sound card ALC 889A codec realtek blah blah ...Im using optical output.

However normal optical way with windows xp ..the DTS outputs were awesome.

But when I upgraded to Vista..the DTS output sucked... they weren't like 5.1 before which was done by the driver before..

now there's too much bass on the speakers and woofer isn't working the way it used to.

^ not MS fault, Creative sucks.

I have used Creative Audigy Platinum Gamer etc :P

I found very small effect on the audio quality. Currently Asus Xonar is minimum if you want dedicated sound card, to justify upgrade from onboard.

I *do* use onboard sound, but not for music... I have multiple DACs and sources, the onboard (actually, two of them on two separate machines) is only used for watching Youtube videos and gaming, both through the digital output into a Pioneer receiver with some JBL speakers.

For music listening, onboard sucks anyway you cut it. I found the Xonar a reasonable upgrade, but for a serious audiophile there are obviously much better choices.

The EAX experiment is worth a shot, but onboard does not support multichannel over digital output anyway (unless it's a ADI1988+, Sigmatel or the ALC889/A/B) so I don't know if I'll turn up anything useful.

i found improvement in games when i used SB live........apart frm tht ver little impovement in aaudio quality.
