I just checked Apple Store, here is the config for 1200USD / 53K INR

2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB

500GB Serial ATA Drive

AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512MB GDDR5

21.5 inch iMac.

Apple Magic Mouse

Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
The Apple Store (India) - iMac

53k may sound good converting USD to INR , but the above Indian link shows 65K + , so 12k difference

Paraphrasing a friend, I love Apple products but hate the idea that Apple sells. Especially hate the smug ads. (Mac vs PC. The new iPhone). They also come across as being very hypocritical.
I really like your first line.Apple products are great I just hate that they sell so much.I don't feel like they deserve it.Like when the time the kid in china sold his kidney for an iPad.LINK.That really pissed me off.Sometimes it feels that the world is full of mindless drones and Steve Jobs is permanently in control of their minds telepathically.

Lord steve jobs, kindly pour some magic dust on this thread so that it will be moved to general talk section :angel1:

I have nothing against Apple, but their products are often hideously overpriced.

YES :|

Also, in my experience, they have been quite unreliable - all 4 iPods I had didn't last more than a year.

May be just you, my 3 year old iPod classic running still fine today :)

Apple survives because of Steve Jobs Superb Keynotes,Making people believe that they have unearthed something new, revolutionary, that could change the path of humankind.

You got to say,Steve Jobs truly knows how to engross an audience.

Totally agree with you here !

As ridiculous as rite might sound, you will be surprised how much of a status symbol it is in India. Many of my friends have bought iPads just because - they really didn't need it and rarely use it.

Beat this,

My Friend Bought a Locked iphone 4 from UK, and he thinks paying 1500rs for a gevey sim is bullcrap for such a small piece of plastic , and when i asked him "why did you buy it when you cant use it?" .... he Answered " Class"

Yes, totally. Agree with both of you guys. I have quite few friends who think same. Owning apple product makes them something above ? LOL

Yeah, true. Thats what I said in my second post.

The overpriced thing is a bit off. The iPod, Iphone, Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Book Air are all very competitively priced products. The thing that makes them seem expensive is that their products are not tailored to reach 100% of the market.

They are good priced in US, but not in India. That makes it expensive and same reason to hate it.

My reason:

They don't have basic features in their phone(s). Bluetooth transfer absent? I mean is this 1991?

But after JB it's possible.

I wasn't trying to say they are cheap. It's costly in US also. But that image had comparions from Apple US store, so I was just giving the right info.

Why ? I don't see any fanboi wars here, thread is going quite well.

@avi you are totally right about it being a status symbol.

Everyone wants to have one.

Does someone want to own a Hp-XX-XXXX(some obscure number) or a mac? :bleh:

They will say mac 90%,there are few who REALLY don't know what macs are.(Eg: People who think apple makes only ipods)

The reason why those who love Apple love it because it is priced high. Had it been dirt cheap, it wouldn't be a status symbol and people would have gone with Android or Windows Phone 7. But the very fact that if you can't afford an Apple, means you aren't well off in USA and in India it means you aren't rich if you can't afford it, hence people buy it to stay in their class.
Going through most of your posts I can't help thinking that you are obsessed with the division of the masses over class! Had you been born during the cold war or in some communist nation you would've been butchered!

I once came across a survey from some prominent UK based website - girls and homosexuals like apple products was the end result of the survey!

I don't like apple because of their ethics and their way of projecting their crap -- i don't like someone telling me what to do when i've spent my hard earned money buying the crap they peddle and then being told what to do and what not to do with. Although i sincerely believe that apple will come crashing down when their overlord steve jobs bites the dust - which i hope is soon!

for people who need more info -- watch this recent bbc documentary about superbrands - The secrets of the superbrands -- a very informative and entertaining 3 part documentary series

I think that the two things that I like with apple are.
1. the battery life and the longlasting of their products.. in general ( they do go bad but then the second pint is the answer )
2. their warranty, it is superb.. but now it is going down the drain too..

these are points which I dont like !!!
1. users think that they will not be affected with viruses and such malwares.. but that is now changing.. ;) LOLzs
Bullcrap !! bnow they are the most insecure and easy to hack platform in the world !!!
The general attitude of apple users.. is utterly disgusting.. I think they are just like Ramdev's.. just shouting and wanting media and friends attention !!!

Thank you my lord for listening to your humble devotee :thanx: All Hail Lord Jobs :)

WTH?You're misquoting me.Anyway are you objecting to me being pissed off that a Chinese kid sold his kidney for an almost useless piece of hardware that will be outdated in a year(iPad btw Honestly its just a phone with a big screen that doesn't make phone calls).I think my hate is justified over there. If your objecting to me saying they don't deserve so much...then you're free to do so:|.There are a lot of people like me.

love them or hate them, they are the pioneers in whatever they do. apple start making ipods, whole world start making mp3 players.

apple start making iphone, touchscreen phones which were never popular before start ruling the roost and become every company's priority.

tablets were never popular till apple came up with ipads, now we are told that they are the future and every company wants a piece of that pie.

so, love them or hate them but they should be respected for their innovation. even if you don't own an apple, you may be owning a

product which is inspired by something originally made by the creative minds at apple.

Are you telling that Apple was the first company on earth to start making mp3 players? :O
People think the same about tablets, ultrathin laptops etc. But you have to give credit to Apple for putting these products into attractive, good-looking packages. The iPod was much more elegant compared to its bulky competitors at the time, even though its audio quality left much to be desired. But that's trademark Apple - they realize that most users care most about the aesthetic. Performance, audiophile quality, etc. these things are not as important to gain the mass market. The Creative Zen Vision M was ten times better than the competing iPod 5G in every single respect, except the looks / thinness. And you can guess how badly the iPod still outsold the Zen. It's the looks, the hype, winning over a customer emotionally, the marketing that matters most, and Apple are unbeatable at that. This is why Apple is the biggest tech company in the world today.

i didn't say they were the first, just that after seeing the success of ipods, every company plunged into the business of making mp3 players.

neither were they first in making touchscreen phones or tablets. but they made everything so damn good that it definitely inspired others.

I do not understand why do people have to "hate" something if they are not interested in the said product/brand. I have seen this trend with graphic cards too. People tend to hate ATI if they own an Nvidia card and vice versa. The latest trend being the iOS vs Android debate. Apparently it makes you look intellectual if you own an android device or a blackberry whereas owning an apple makes you look like an ignorant rich noob. Now, I have had the opportunity to use both platforms extensively and I can confidently say that a jailbroken iOS is anyday better than an android. But like many, I give priority to value for money products and hence will choose an android phone over an Iphone. But if someone was to give me a gift and asked me to choose between an Iphone and an Android phone, I would pick the former.

So I guess, the reason why people "hate" apple is either because they do not have access to it or they are loyal to a competitor brand which gets them into a defensive mode whenever its mentioned.

Looking at this from a tech enthusiasts point of view, I think it is very important for us to keep an open mind about things and rate the product/brand according to its current performance. I started off with intel and than shifted to AMD when AMD had the better product in the market and now that intel is offering better performance than AMD, If given a chance I would gladly shift back to intel. Hate or fanboyism has no place in technology imo.

Pretty much it. If Apple (or any company) made a product I found compelling I would definitely give it a chance, just like I have before. It is all about the best product for your individual use.

@Bluffmaster, some very valid points there. It usually boils down to two things in most cases - VFM, and the right fit. If a device gives me what I am looking for without too much hassle, and it is a better value proposition than the others, that is what I am most likely to pick up.
