This happened twice in last one month.

I was working and suddenly the system rebooted. Upon restart the display started flashing. I pressed soft reboot button on the cabi, still the display was flashing. I turned off the UPS to cut the power, waited for 10 sec and reboot and it was normal as if nothing happened.

Some observations

1. POST beeps were normal

2. System was under normal load, cpu - should have been 0-20 load.

3. No heavy grafix applications were running.

4. Temps should not have been high.

I could not understand what could possibly be wrong. Any pointers.

Here's system insight. (I worked on the cable management)

something similar with me here..except that i have 2 hdd's..at times 1 doesn't get detected and this time when it didn't and i switched off my computer...whenever i switched it on i just saw the light on the cpu and the monitor, but no beep heard like every time when we switch on the computer nor did i see anything on the monitor...even the monitor remained just as it is when the computer is switched off i.e monitor on but comp off ( stand by ) windows never got booted either...forget that even the motherboard settings didn't get loaded...any idea why this happened or how can i get over this issue ?

well, it happened again. An interesting thing i observed was -2 out of 3 times i got an alert in ZA that svchost want to run as a server. The moment I pressed Deny it would reboot.

Assuming it may be virus or some software issue, but on reboot the display would flash. I turned off the UPS waited for 5 sec, restart and it ran as if nothing happened.

might be a trojan
scan for viruses

scanned with malwarebytes + NAV 2009 + Adaware 2009 + ZA spyware scan..
Nothing..

I am confused.. if its a virus, why does the screen flashes on reboot?

@zoheb6007 : yes I did. However they won't be of any use when the pc reboots. I mean at the time when it shows the bios logo etc.

@H20 : you may be right abt the RAM. I was dealing with heating problems some days ago when I had to install a heat sink/ couple of fans and redo the cable management. Maybe the RAM is bit loose. It is since then this problem has started.

And how to inc the volts. Never did it before. Shall I post hwmonitor screenshot?
