I have this in mind:

WD 1 TB Caviar Black HDD

Is it the best price and VFM drive?

My budget is 4-5K. Considering the rest of my system, I am not looking for extreme performance. Presently I just have a 250GB WD AAKS HDD+80GB Seagate HDD (6 years old now). I am into movies and games so I need the extra space.

Just realized this WD Black HDD is too expensive. Why is that. Can you recommend a Seagate 7200.12 HDD in it's place?

What about these:

Theitdepot - Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Internal Hard Drive

Thanks in advance.

Re: Please recommend a 1TB Plus Internal Hard drive

For 1 TB WD black - confirm the model as if it is WD1001FALS or WD1002FAEX (the former has 32mb cache & sata II , & later has 64mb cache & sata III)
Seagate 1.5 TB is mostly LP drive, hence not good as primary HDD, also the description says it 7200.11 (ruled out)
Seagate 1 TB 7200.12 is a good buy at its price & performance.

if you are getting WD 1 TB WD1002FAEX, then it is also a good option for 4.8 - 5 K.

Checked some reviews & found that on most of the tests 7200.12 is either equal or lags a little bit than WD black - WD1002FAEX (at most 5-7 mbps in read/write tests).
Here is the source-
Western Digital's 6Gbps Caviar Black 1TB hard drive - The Tech Report - Page 1

After reading this I think 7200.12 is great VFM buy.

@tg: Thanks a ton. Apparently I can't rep you because I have to spend some around first. I think I will go with your suggestion. I will be glad to save the 1700 bucks if the performance difference is not huge. BTW, that WD Black HDD I linked has 64MB cache.

I was skeptiacal because the model is not mentioned there & the content is simply copied from WD site.

Well, I think I will go for the Seagate 7200.12 one. I don't think WD offers anything special for the extra money they charge for the Black one.

Re: Please recommend a 1TB Plus Internal Hard drive

IINM WD Black carries 5 yrs warranty whereas the WD Green, Blue and Seagate 7200.12 carries 3 yrs warranty. Other than this there is no advantage that WD Black offers over the rest for the intended usage.

IMHO with seagate HDD's i have hear so many instances where the HDD's go kaput within 6 months and you have to get it RMAed..It has happened to me twice..one with 7200.11 and other with 7200.12 which i just got RMAed and its hardly 4 months old..I have been using WD's from last 2 years and atleast they are free from any troubles..And the performce of WD green is not bad at all compared to seagate Barracuda's when it comes to peace of mind...I am ready to wait 1 min. extra for the file to be copied rather than waiting for 2 weeks to get my HDD RMAed and that 2 twice in a year...

Doesn't WD Green have 5 year warranty check this page: see the 1Tb hdd

Western Digital

Guys I am getting the WD1001FALS for 4700/- including taxes. Apart from that only WD Green is available. And I am inclined to go for the Black one. What do you say guys? Would that be a good decision?

OMG I lost my mind. I had gone to buy the WD Green HDD but bought the black one instead. I just booted through a linux pendrive and copied 70 GB of data from old to new HDD. It was being copied at freakin 40MB/sec. Now me really regretting getting this.

Offtopic: Is there any point in buying WD Black 1TB SATA 3 when one does not have a SATA 3 port?
no not at all.
If you have sata 3 still stick to sata 2 as the HDD's are still to make up with the sata 2 speed.
