Hi guys...

Well, as a professional medical transcriptionist, I have to type a lot every day. It's part of my job. Even though I've been promoted to Senior QA, I do sometimes have to type quite extensively. My current typing speed is 120 wpm

So can you guys recommend me a really good keyboard.

I previously had my eyes on this bad boy....

HP 2004 Standard Keyboard

Don't go on it's looks, it's a REALLY GOOD AND STUDY KEYBOARD, and I really want one, but as it is, they are out of production, and I don't like the latest HP models.

So...tech people...recommend me :)

Edit:Wireless ones are not an option :)

Hmm....this looks like just any other keyboard ? Also, whats the difference when they say "mechanical" ? I have been through Logitechs and Microsoft's Deluxe (standard/regular) keyboards. How is this different from them ?

Also, recently I've started having some very little pain in my fingers or at the base of the fingers, so I was thinking about something in the lines of having an ergonomic keyboard. I have never had an ergonomic keyboard. Being a typist, I am always fearful/careful of carpal tunnel syndrome. A very good friend of mine told me to check this out...

Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000

How good is it ? Any suggestions on this one ? or any other type :)

I have the HP keyboard you linked to , its nothing extraordinary , the microsoft one i used earlier was much better

I am also a MT. I use Microsoft regular keyboard which comes with keyboard and mouse combo and costs only Rs. 700 for the combo.

Can you prescribe me which earphone/headphone you are using to do QA or transcribe files?

Ya, I have that Microsoft combo right now, and it's good, but I am seriously thinking of getting the Natural Ergonomic 4000 :) I have also heard so much about TVS, but it looks just like any other keyboard and definitely doesn't look ergonomic :P I've never tried an ergonomic keyboard in my life, hence the interest :)

About the earphones, earlier I was using those fake Sony earphones that you get in the grey market for 150 bucks. Even though the audio was crystal clear, they were a constant earache for me, so I went ahead and bought these....

MDR-EX55SL/B

I bought them from a showroom for Rs. 1490 :) These block out unnecessary noise (almost 70% of it) and DO NOT HAVE ANY BASS in them, which makes them CRYSTAL CLEAR, and all the more perfect for our profession :)

Edit: I know they are not the best in the market, but am pretty happy they don't add any heavy bass to the voice files that we listen to :)

TVS Gold Keyboard would be perfect for high speed typing.

Are the keys soft ? This Microsoft keyboard that I've bought, the keys have turned a little hard after 4 to 5 months' usage :( The price of TVS Gold is a little steep. I checked out the price, and it's Rs. 1300. It would really help if I could try it before buying :)

TVS Gold without a doubt. The price is a bit steep compared to the typical keyboard available in the market, but let me assure you that its worth every paisa you spend on it. It take a lot of wear and tear and it will last at least 10 years. I still have a 12 year old TVS Gold at home and its in top notch condition. The tactile feedback of this keyboard is too damn good for any touch typist.

As for the HP keyboard you posted, we use these at office, its good, but definitely not among the best I have seen. It does not hold a candle againist the TVS Gold. Still its a tonne better than the shitty apple keyboard I use with my iMac alongside this HP.

tvs gold may not be the one to win the looks category but once you start using it u will never go for another one.I am saying after going thro lot of keyboards. For once an indian company which beats others at their own game.Go for tvs without any reservation.yes the price is steep but as lord nemesis pointed out in the longer run it will pay itself and also for others.

hope this helps.

+1 for TVS gold

this is one keyboard that actually makes me want to type more. its so fun. :P

it looks ugly, but hey, its supposed to be used for typing right?

TVS GOLD

Don't look at price, make an one timne investment.

I have bought a TVS GOLD on 1 july,09. It's very good keyboard. These mechanical keys makes my fingers greedy to press them.

Go for it.

WOW. i have been using TVS GOLD for the past 7 years without realizing it was such a hot favorite.

@ravihpa: honestly buddy , you are into a business where fast typing is essential and you don't know a mechanical keyword and TVS GOLd ~ :S
