Folks,

Recommend me a freeze of mentioned capacity. Budget of about 15k. I have seen some brands (LG, Whirlpool, Samsung), but however inconclusive.

So, help me out.

Thanks

I'm sure I have mentioned the following at least more than once here on TE. I'll do that again.

1. Build and look wise I have found all the major brands to be on par, at least at the entry level.
2. ASS is another issue totally, and it depends on location also. I have had good experiences with LG and Godrej, others might have other opinions.
3. Some companies now market refrigerators that run without a stabilizer; Do look for them. They might cut off at least 1K additional expenses.
4. I weigh one more important factor, namely, the energy efficiency rating. LG is the only brand that produces max fridges with 5 star energy rating; Samsung follows next. I would definitely consider this while deciding my purchase.
http://www.delhitransco.gov.in/EnergyEfficiency/FrostFreeRefrigerators.pdf

Consider all the above factors and decide for yourself. Do check out at least 5 to 10 different showrooms/dealers. PRices vary widely, and you might save yourself another 0.5 to 1K here also.

well from my understanding from the efficiencys from BEE the direct cool refrigerators are more efficient(consume less power) and cheaper to buy compared to frost free ones.
for eg a LG 5star energy rated Frost Free 230L consumes 380units of power vs LG 5star energy rated Direct Cool 230L consumes 260units of power.

Appreciate guys... I am not even aware of all these and hence turned to TE. Please let the comments pour in.

Thanks

where do u stay since if u stay in hot places then u would want a reliable highly efficient ones ,since for eg i stay in bangalore and in summers my refrigerator compresser runs for 15min continously with 5min break.so in 1hr the compressor is On for 45min and at rest for 15min.
places like chennai are realy hot usualy their lowest temperature is equal to bangalores highest temperature.
so while frost free is good feature, meaning frost wont form it does consume more power and if u stay in a hot place u might want to get a direct cool,i have a direct cool godrej one which is like more then 10years old and only about twice did the frost occur, and once it does occur u can always press the defrost button .many of my relatives also have godrej and is very reliable, however they are more power hungry compared to the competition like Lg,whirlpool, samsung etc according to BEE.so if my refrigetor does die my next refrigerator should be most efficient,so it wont be a godrej unless then make a one that is very efficient.
so in refrigerators look for how long the compress lasts and power consumption.my uncle has a LG its been running without trouble for 4years and counting.

Nice point there adder...!! Direct cool refrigerators means the ones where you have to defrost manually, right...? In that case, I'm not sure how many would go for that, unless they are very tight on budget.

well i mean i am a green guy,so even though i can afford the frost free one and the extra power bill that comes with it,i would still go for a direct cool, since very rarely do i get a frost, atleast my ancient godrej has a rotary dial that controls the temperature ,so when u set the temperature to moderate levels sufficient for food items to remain good and ability in freezer compartment to form ice, then u will never need to press the defrost button, like i said before i have only defrosted 2 times in the span of more then 10year+ .

After reading the Thread title i thought someone wanted to freeze 230+ Liter of ???? :P
Back to the topic
Have used both Godrej & Whirpool brand refrigerators and both are working without any problem for the past 7-8 years. I guess you won't get any specific models from TE as people buy a new refrigerators once in a decade or so only people who are looking for a new one and have already gone through the entire thing of seeking a new refrigerators can help better or the people working in that industry can help you better.............

And you are sure you want a refrigerator and not want to freeze 230+ Liters to break the world OC record & taking pushing the E2180 to 8+ Ghz..........

Yessssss primarily I need a refreigerator, once am done with that, I will do the later part to. :P

You should try OCing while inside the refrigerator.:P

I have been using a Samsung refrigerator for quite some time now and apart from the occasional odor, there haven't been any major problems with it.

I bought Samsung 25T FF- 4 star stabilizer free- last month & my electricity bill shoot to DOUBLE. After every 1 hrs or less it's compressor start automatically to defrost moisture & maintained the cooling inside.

So if Defrosting is not a big deal (i'm newbie) than I think you should go with Direct Cool to save power & charges.

on the topic of defrosting - wont your fridge consume more electricity if the freezer is covered in ice (frost) most of the time compared to not being??

imo frost free fridges consume a little more since they have a heater built in the water collecting tray (below the fridge) to evaporate the water i think.

if you want good performance and less power consumption keep the temp settings to 2-4 max in summer for the lower door (in a 2 door fridge) and keep the freezer to 1-2. PLus dont open the door every 5 mins or so to beat the heat.

freezer is hardly opened most of the day so keeping it at min or a little above minimum saves electricity.

well it wont since once frost appears the compressor wont switch On for a long time since the temperature will be pretty low,and my freezer barely formes a frost, only in the ice tray does ice form,or if there is water.
on the other hand frost free compressor will always be busy since it has to has to maintain that optimum temperature.

Hmm, am a green guy, and am convinced to go towards direct cool. Frost free it seems is just another human laziness convenience and yeah that way we are burdening earth resources.

Thanks Guys!
