If you want to use linux and not mess about with the system then install Ubuntu. I have used Fedora, Suse and Ubuntu, of the lot Ubuntu gives you the most refined experience of linux you can get. Its easy, simple, well engineered and very well supported.
I have played with slackware,fedora,old redhats,knoppix,mandriva ,mint,freespire,Ubuntu . I would prefer a debian based distro anyday . It makes life so much easier due to big fat repositories .
