Hello All,

Need to buy a hatch in the family. The car will be chauffer driven ONLY, so rear seat space and comfort is all that matters. Ideally should be able to seat 3 people in the back as well.

Budget is in the 4-5L range, cannot go above that.

Monthly running will be around 600km (in delhi traffic, no highway driving), so diesel will probably not make sense. The car will be kept for a longer duration (5yrs+ most probably), so servicing costs are a consideration as well.
I will not be around in the same city, so something that gives minimum hassle, ready service availability is preferred.

Looking at all these, the Indica Vista petrol (65 bhp LS/LX), seems to be a good fit. Are there any other good options people may recommend?

Let me know.

Take a good long look at the Toyota Liva. Much saner choice over the Tata(Petrol).

+ves:
1. Toyota's frugal engineering, longevity, reliability and hassle free ownership guaranteed.
2. T-Badge - Bragging rights.
3. T-Badge - niggle free and peace of mind.
4. Spacious enough, even at the rear.(not sedan class though). Still good for 5.
5. Proven and refined engine. Extra-ordinary handling and ride quality.
6. Good aesthetics(subjective).

-ves :

1. Not as well built as the other Toyotas. Cost cutting very apparent.
2. Spartan interiors will feel much inferior to that of the Vista.

Never been a fan of petrol offerings from Tata. But that's just a general perception. The FIRE engine doing duty on the Saffire has been around for a long time and has been prone to issues including the dreaded poor FE reports, not sure if Tata has improvised much. The Vista's interiors(upholstery & space) deserves much accolades, but in my book that is not enough to even make the choice a difficult one.

Off-topic :
Recent conversation with driver saheb :
Me : " Thinking of replacing the old amby with an Indica diesel ".
Him: " Ewwww! Please No! I don't want to spoil my Sundays at garages/workshops"

I like a few Tata cars, especially the Safari (with it's fair share of niggles), but with the general perception that Tata has managed to garner, keeps some folks away from the drink, even without tasting the waters

Will consider the Liva as well then. Dont care much about bragging rights/engine/handling etc. Space is paramount since this will be used by a couple of relatives on the heavy side, followed by rear seat comfort. Also will be used for a couple of years, so robust and solid build is important.
@Metalspree The relatives who are getting it have 0 knowledge of cars and dont drive at all. So they wont be comfortable getting a second hand vehicle that may need some work etc. This will be exclusively handled by a driver etc.

Vista is the best bet in this budget.

If you increase the budget then you got a load of options with etios like manza and you will be n touching distance of the eriga

Ps - etios g - 6.5
Ertiga lxi costs 7 .

I do pay the extra 50 k for ertiga.

the base variant imo which is the "j" for the etios doesnt even have power steering and it would be stupidity to lose such a standard feature and i dont think even that comes in your 5 lakh budget.

it seems vista is the clear choice at 5 lakhs especially if it is chauffeur driven.Other options are beat and wagon r but they do not have spacious rear and headroom as compared to the vista.
