there was this website called ogrish.com or something and they had most gross human decapitation videos and stuff from the middle east -- a guy had his penis chopped off in public by the girl's father bcoz they were seen together or they had sex or some crap.

its a mad mad mad world out there.

Ogrish was renamed liveleak.com some years back. It posted the daniel pearl execution video some years ago and got in trouble. Snuffx.com is blocked by some indian ISP's. Do a search on google for "execution" and the majority of results will be from the muslim world. Micheal moore's "fahrenheit 9/11" shows a footage of a man chopping another man's head with a sword in a public execution in the streets of saudi. "Faces of death I" shows a close up shot of a group of islamic militia beheading a man who had committed rape. A relative of mine who lived in middle-east once out of curiosity went to see these punishments and saw two beheadings. They are done in streets for everyone to see. That relative of mine never felt curious again.

it was about a punishment for rape..
i think it is still the same there..
makes sense :P

also there is punishment of chopping hand for thieves, not so sure if it is still in practice...

I have seen some crazy things during my stay in KSA too. :P But the punishment for bringing cell phone with camera (that's what must have been the problem) seems a bit too harsh.

I'll tell you an incident that happened to a Phillipino guy. I don't remember the exact details, but this is what I know. He had a wife and a small infant. One day, his wife suddenly falls ill and needs to go to the hospital. The guy tries to rush her in a car to the hospital and jumps a red signal. The cops catch him for jumping the signal and puts him in jail (Yes they directly put you in jail for jumping a signal). The wife doesn't getting any medical attention and while the guy is in jail, she dies. Meanwhile, the infant who was also somewhat sick, was left alone in the house. With the parents outside, the poor baby also dies. I don't know what exactly had happened to the baby, but all I know is that he/she died. :(

So after all this, the guy is released from jail only to find out his family is no more. He get's totally pissed off. Who wouldn't be? So the guy goes and attacks the police officer. Later he gets executed for attacking the police officer. :(

Anyone going to KSA, one piece of advice, follow the rules their way, you don't wanna break any of it. Especially traffic rules. Forget jumping signals and all. One of my dad's friend's car was rammed into by a local Saudi from behind. It was totally the Saudi's fault cause my dad's friend was stationary at a signal. The worst part is that there was a cop standing there who saw the whole incident but blamed everything on my dad's friend and made him pay all the damage and fines. The reason? Because my dad's friend was a foreigner and the other person was a Saudi. :|

Oh and BTW, if you have to even get a small scratch or dent fixed, you have to get permission from the police before you can get it fixed from a garage. So think before you even bump into a pillar. :P

The charge is more for assault on the school principal, student got a bit upset over objecting to the phone etc ;)

..its still a ridiculous penalty !!

But the general theme -- protests against an authority figure are to be punished severely! They are making an example out of her.

Do the saudi's get a say at all ? Nope

Domestic affairs is with the mullahs who in exchange for the favour let the house of Saud carry on. There is no 'religon' going on here whatsoever, its just the usual power politics that goes on everywhere, a little more exagerrated in the case of KSA.

Until the ppl can scare the mullahs & the king enough, nothing will change. Oil runs out in a century or two there, things should get interesting around that time.

Par for the course in any of the GCC. It's a case of what comes around goes around. The locals have no power and get told what to do and how to behave, they take it out on others :|

One's life has to be pretty bad here to go there. Its difficult to adapt to less liberty than one was born with. Money goes some way in fixing that.

now if obama found some WMDs in saudi!

we would have fun! oil prices would shoot through the roof!

i wonder if the middle east would lose its importance after all their mineral oil reserves have been exhausted--the only two great exports from the region--oil and gas and fundamental religious extremist zealots.

Not in our lifetimes and thats a good thing too as we are not yet in a position to replace it with anything else for now.

hehe!! he should run over a pothole!!!

we indians are faantaastic!! absolootely A-1 ! we are ekdum number 1 !

OMFG! Isn't that NH8 into Gurgaon from Jaipur? That road is bloody crazy anyway..tractors and bullock carts coming in the opposite direction!
