Was the sarcastic ?

I did not mean any offense buddy , was just pointing out that amount of time is really taxing on the body .

You are bound to feel fatigued and you're body condition will only deteriorate more over time .

Not discouraging , but .. anyways its your life ! .

where is this thread heading??? it started about eye strain and is going towards sentiments for the poor.. plz people.. stick to the topic of a particular thread.. if you wanna discuss sentiments, plz start a new thread about feelings for the poor..

about the straining of eyes in low brightness, this is exactly because of the reflections that become visible in very low brightness of the screen..

You mean one shouldn't use low brightness ? I always keep zero on my lappie :-/

the brightness should be according to the ambient lighting in the room.. what happens is, if the brightness is too low or lowest, but the lighting in the room is very good, your screen starts acting as a mirror and you begin seeing reflections. this is bad. as your brain wants to focus on what is being displayed buy the eyes automatically start getting confused as to what to focus on..

the lowest brightness setting should only be used when theres no good lighting or no lighting at all. otherwise, first turn your brightness to lowest, then gradually increase it till where you just stop seeing the reflections.. that will be the optimal brightness for that particular room and time of the day.. and make sure you dont keep staring at the screen. blink regularly. and once in every 5 min, look away and focus at an object which is at a different distance than your screen..

Bro do all monitor reflect? , my monitor screen is not glossy and it dont seems to reflect anything, is there any way to check reflection ?

oh no. ..if your monitor doesnt reflect, the reflection is not a problem.. but even then, if you keep the brightness too low, it will cause strain on your eyes as enough light from the monitor doesnt enter the eyes, and then the eyes need to open all wide to compensate for the low light.. keep the brightness where everything is visible comfortably. you need not make even a little effort to focus on the screen. and dont keep it too much such that the monitor becomes a tubelight.

reflection will primarily be on crystal clear brighview lcd displays, like the ones on most of the laptops.

Even I don't get reflection on my screen with lowest brightness & I also my starts straining even if I keep one level high. I just make it high while watching movies or gaming

I too have to sit for long hours in front of the monitor. Have a 17" CRT, was wondering if getting a LCD/LED would be any beneficial for my eyes ?

Damn, I should've guessed that. Btw, how do you connect those? Via daisy chain or Bus topology? Also, upload some pics if you find time from your busy schedule.
