Video Refurbished FireStick 4K Max

I don't know where else to post this. I bought a certified refurbished FireStick 4K Max from Amazon. What I received seems to be a fresh piece in generic packing! All accessories also seem factory fresh! (Many in reviews say the same thing!)

With one year warranty this seems to be great deal. Is there any Catch?

There is no catch. I jumped the gun when they mentioned the warranty part

Refurbished can mean anything from original box was damaged to user returned item with some signs of use/scratches.

The catch is usually the lower warranty (typically 6 months) for a negligible drop in price. Most of the time the extra warranty is worth buying brand new.

And brand new in Amazon's vocabulary can mean returned item that has been resealed to fool the buyer

I got 1 year warranty on this, as well kindle. Amazon shows replacement window of 1 year. Both items were basically new, no signs of use at all and decent discount. Got Kindle for 5k.
Dunno about others, but amazon's own refurbished products like these with full warranty definitely seems worth it.

This max refurbished is the older version. The new max 2024 version is not on sale in India. It is better to buy Fire stick 4K new (2024 version) than the refurbished max as they have added a couple of audio codecs missing from the older max.

exactly. i just bought the new 4k stick via Blinkit. I was tinkering with some electronics, and I needed to check something on the jiffy!
It came home in 6 mins! THE LUXURY!

I have been waiting since ages... for this.

But i doubt we will see it in India anytime soon, it was launched in September 2023, technically should have been available around diwali 2023.. didn't happened, diwali 2024 didn't happened.
gen1 max had flaws in wifi antenna resulted in many returns.. which now they are selling. Until amazon finish dumping all this old stock. gen 2 may not be available.

Gen 2 Firestick 4K has all the capabilities of the Max only a little slower. So, you can buy it if you need it.

Amazon Refurbished is typically customer returns .. where the packaging is damaged to the extent it cannot be repackaged.. or minor accessories are missing (and thus again cannot be repackaged).
Most of the time, its a good way to save money on something you think is overpriced otherwise.

However the only risk is that the classification is down to manual tagging by someone not necessarily fully trained on the nuances of the product..
so a potentially damaged item may also get misclassified as refurbished.. (eg if some unscrupulous customer swapped the original remote from the box with a local cheap copy but the stick itself looked great at time of classification)
