Maybe its an irrelevant place to ask such type of question but i can't restrain myself from asking it. I am a graduate, Bsc in Information Technology from Dav college, Amritsar. Its almost been an year i have finished my degree and have not pursued any higher education partly because i did'nt see any benefit of studying futhur and party because i am too lazy, lol. We did'nt have any campus placement. Now i have started thinking about what to do next? I needed some suggestions. Most of my friends here in my city and my parents would advise me to do Masters either in Computers or Accounting. But the problem is i dont want to study, i want to do work, and the major problem in that is there is no work related to IT in my city. The only option left to me is to leave my city. But then also i cannot decide where to go and what to do? I am thinking of doing MCA from Delhi university, coz Delhi seems to be my preferred place, i got some friends and relatives there. But the thing i want to know whether i will get placed from DU after finishing my studies or not? I have heard that campus placement is the best way to get employed. Or is there any other path i can tread? Suggest me a way lol.

Getting a job after doing MS depends entirely on your performance. Im in a similar state as your's as i have completed by BE from VTU karnataka last year and have apped for MS in US. Now waiting for Visa.

What many ppl here do is, they either go to Hyderabad or Bangalore and set camp there till they get employed.

Its becoming really tough (near to impossible) to land in a Good IT job with just a B.Sc Degree. I recommend you to go ahead with a Masters degree (MCA/MBA) depending on the what you are interested in working.

Also don't join a college just because you are comfortable with it or want to stay in some place. Join a college where you can learn and also have good campus recruitments. These days campus recruitments are not just the best way to get employed, but increasingly the only way to get employed as a fresher. Many companies these days have stopped recruiting freshers off campus. Some software services companies still do recruit of campus, but from what I found, the off campus recruits are not paid in the same scales as the campus recruits.

Also with the fluctuating economies, most IT companies (Both in India and outside) have started cost cutting measures and several are silently laying off people as part of the process. So except very tough competition for jobs in the IT sector.

Going abroad is not an option here. My parents are'nt going to allow me to go :(

Well, since you mention that you donot wish to study further and are a bit lazy :P, I must tell you that MCA is a 3 year course, as opposed to MBA of 2 yrs. Believe me when I say that MCA is tough and it is very demanding on your time. As far as placements are concerned, a good institute will assertain a good placement. As of now, the current salary a fresher recruit gets on an average is Rs. 3L p.a. as opposed to the double minimum for a MBA fresher.

After BSc(IT), even if you manage yourself a job, the pay will be very less. It is essential that you persue your Master's degree. What remains to be decided is MCA or MBA or MS.

So, all the best in deciding your future course of action ;)

If I was on your place, I would start a business or start working as a freelancer.

Ofcourse that requires certain skills but since I am into 3d Graphics, Animation... why the hell not use it?

then when I would have just got bored, I would do MBA... MCA is not an option for me (its like I want to be Entrepreneur not an Employee)

Hope it helps

Im not asking you to do MS but im just saying what I am doing. As I said, it as depends on you and your interests.

1) Start taking things seriously..

I can very well judge your cassual approach towards career. Its high time, u'v completed ur B.Sc. If u plan to move forward in life in IT field, i wud suggest you shud either opt for MCA/MBA as suggested by sm othr guyz..PG's must dese dayz..

Secondly Amritsar wont give you a jump whch u r looking for. Move out. See life and get into the competition. Sitting idle wont make any good. If you are not interested in studying anymore then go for some business. Going abroad without studying wont help you either. rest depends on you, your goals and your attitude towards life.

Good Luck..

nd yes DU's mca admissions r over for dis year. I guess you must not be aware of dis..

Most f d colleges dese dayz admit via entrance tests. So keep an eye to that.

to OP:

I am in software and i can tell you that getting an opening in IT companies with BSc degree is almost impossible. sorry to sound pessimistic, but thats the way it is

a BE and MCA is min requirement for freshers

Dont sit in a comfort zone

You have to travel down south to get a career in IT. Most IT work happens in Blore,Chennai,Hyd

Start being more agressive, dont wait for a long time searching for job, the next freshers will come soon to compete with you.

Best option - do some programming course soon and get a job, or go for MCA in good college

MBA is not an option, as you said, u r lazy :P
