I got a Reliance SIM for 20 bucks which has Rs 40 talktime. Add to that this one month free internet offer - doesn't it make sense :) !!

Nowadays you can get most SIMs at 10-20 Rs. that too with free talktime, SMS etc etc - don't know how the mobile co. afford these!!
 
Ya ya I know..!! I also have multiple SIM's from all operators that are available in my city :)

Same case, just got for Rs. 10/- or Rs. 20/- with more talktime value and free sms :P

its not as if they are paying you 20 bucks,they are giving you service which they value it as 20rs.

AFAIK they(GSM companies) get spectrum based on no of subscribers. so instead of paying for spectrum to Govt,they lure with attractive offers so that their subscriber base increases and they get more specrum

I also wanted to know this thing.
 
When telecom companies get license they get the minimum available spectrum for which they have to pay huge amounts.
From time to time DoT reviews their subscriber base so that they can increase/decrease the measure of the
Spectrum provided.
This was done to prevent abuse of holding of spectrum which is in limited supply at that available frequencies.
So the companies then calculate the best way to capture the spectrum. Before
Other companies stake claim for it. Thus increasing competitive pricing among them.
I hope i was clear.
The telecom asset value is decided by the spectrum it holds.
Thus we got the 2g scam making headlines because companies were just blocking the spectrum without launching services.
So that they earn more money in terms of sellout/ merger etc.
