Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the stock cooler from palit gtx 260 sonic?

Like which screws should be remove which shouldnt. How to detach the cooler from pcb etc etc.

I googled it but i cudnt find it for palit gtx 260 sonic.

This is my first time. I dont wanna spoil my card.

Thanx

first of all,

why do you want to remove the cooler from a Palit Sonic Card?

The dual slot cooler that comes with it is already pretty decent and should be enough to keep the temps of the card low.

are you getting higher temps than expected? what are your idle and load temps?

^ My guess is it's for application of thermal paste.

I would say take your time with it and don't rush, and only remove the screws on the HS that holds the fan in place. Someone more acquainted with the card's layout can probably give you step by step instructions, though it should be pretty straightforward for most cards.

Why dont u post pics of the front & back of the card? Then people can point out the screws/ clips to be removed.

^ I am guessing the the fan speed is default (dynamic).

@OP

Those temps seem normal for that card.(btw, whats the ambient tempreture?)

Remind me again why do you want to remove the cooler?

Dude, sonic and stuffs are same as GTX260 normal one's.. ive opened my GTX260.. 1st remove backplate by screws then remove screws from the PCI bracked of ur card and more screws follows.. hope u will get it.

@chasni - 75*c load is fine, 260's can handle uptill 100*C..

My 260's max temp after OC at load is ~70*c@60% speed

I would advice against opening ur stock HS. Just up the fan speed via RivaTuner

My room temp is around 30C

Ok..

Thanx guys.. I will try to speed up the fan via rivatuner...

My default software never changes the fan speed even though it is at 75C

i just got a palit gtx260 and my idle temps are 52 and load is 64C. Im running this in a Coolermaster Centurion 5 with 2 intake fans on the front ( 1 120mm and 1 80mm ), an 80mm exhaust on the side top ( opposite the cpu ) and and 80mm intake in the mesh space lower ( hot air rises ) and i have a 120mm high cfm silverstone fan in the back for exhaust which should take care of the 120mm and 80mm at the front cooling well.. my wires and my hard drives respectively.. This doesnt include my psu's exhaust fans.

Get better airflow in the case. Always follow natures rules of exhaust higher and intake lower. And also, more intake is better than more exhaust ( i think, i read that a long time back )

I already have a good airflow.

I m using cm690.

I have following fan config.

Front - Intake - 120mm LED stock fan

Bottom - Intake - 120mm kaze jyuni 110cfm

Side - Intake - 120mm CM 90cfm led fan

Top - Exhaust - 120mm CM 90cfm led fan

Back - Exhaust - 120mm kaze jyuni 110cfm

How can you have a fan on the bottom? lemme go look for that old thread of mine.. might be the case that more exhaust is better than more intake to prevent stagnation of air.

airflow rules............

front/side=intake

rear/top=exhaust.

Always have more CFM exhausting than taking in air.

And those that tell you to have more intake than exhaust to keep dust out or think its better, are on drugs. heavy drugs.

CM690 Bottom is always used as Intake. Thats why it comes with a intake dust filter. It can hold upto 140mm units if required.

might sound out of place but feel something is wrong with your comp.

I have similar air set up with fans, in 590 ... however even with my 22" screen and playing a wolverine for 3-4 hours flat my temped at max reached 61 and idle is never over 50-51 C

Its i guess same Palit 260 216 GC
