I am planning to upgrade to a car for my daily office commuting of around 50 kms each day. I came across a Oct 2007 Renault logan 1.4 GLX petrol in silver. The owner (its a zydus cadilla pharma company car) has installed an expensive top of the line CNG kit and the car has done 70k kms. There's no major damage barring a little cosmetic damage due to the cretinous idiotic louts who roam the streets of Ahmedabad. On taking the car for a test drive I found the engine responds well and handles well. The car has been meticulously maintained and serviced with fresh new JK tyres on the front two wheels. I am getting it for 1.8 lakhs inclusive of a complete service and a free registration transfer in my name. Is this a good deal? BTW my company pays for the fuel. The Logan is known to have awesome build quality and great mileage.

Your company pays for fuel and you want a Logan with a CNG kit  Are you the same sunny who had the stig as his avatar ?
Put in some more money and get something else. I never really liked the Logan, it's like a matchbox on wheels.

You might get a good responsive engine but I would still request you to look at better, more reliable cars with similarly good, responsive engines. If you can extend your budget to say 2-3 lakhs, you will get quite a good second hand car. Check Maruti True Value and Mahindra First Choice or if you are familiar with some good second hand car dealers. Though the price tag of 1.8 lakhs is attractive, it is still a 5 year old car (which was not very good to begin with) and I believe if you look a bit hard, you will get a better deal.

Its a decent car alright - very reliable and things hold together pretty well. Very comfortable too - has the best ride in the less than 5 lacs segment and tonnes of room.

If you don't care much about performance or looks and can live with the taxi image, its a very good car - won't give you any trouble and passengers will never complain.

However if you want something fun to drive, look elsewhere :P.

In any case, I'd say get it checked by a reliable independent mechanic to make sure things are alright and there are no gremlins in the car.

The cng kit was fit into the car in December 2010. the car is in top condition and the cng kit is top of the line. had it checked by a mechanic. the owner has taken very good care of the car. i am extremely tempted to go for this deal. I place emphasis on build quality and longevity of a product - the logan is right up there on both counts.
@ all - what would be a good price for this car? The mahindra used car dealerships quote 1.5 lakhs for a standard 2008 petrol model. this is the top of the line model with cng in it - if not 1.8 lakhs what would be a good price?

You've already got your heart set on it and had it verified by an independent Mechanic. And negotiated the price!!!!

You're looking for validation at the wrong place.!!

If it suits your purpose buy it.if you're looking for space, I doubt you'll get anything else at this price.

Well maintained and service records kept diligently are good reasons to pay some premium for.and new tyres alone cost 20k these days!

I validate your buying decision!!!! :)

Your heart is set on it. Buy it man. Its a ok deal. It is.

somehow confused about getting a used car. don't want to waste money on a new car. can't make financial decisions on impulsive thinking anymore. its that phase in life (25-30) -- a lot of other things are to happen soon!

It's a sign of mature judgement. Money saved is better spent on stuff you really need! Or just invested so you can buy a better car 3-4 years down the line!

Like drsingh said, it appears you've already made your decision. You've seen the car and test driven it, you can make the better decision here not us.

Thats why asking u to get that car. U dont need to spend even a rupee more. Try to haggle a bit more if possible. Either way u are not doing a bad thing.

Money saved can be used for other things.. besides, u r buying it more for a purpose rather than just "buying" it. So its a very wise choice.
