Renault boss Flavio Briatore wants seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher to drive for his team next year, according to reports.
Schumacher's Ferrari deal expires at the end of this season, when world champion Fernando Alonso quits Renault.
Schumacher's agent Willi Webber was quoted as saying in German newspaper Bild:Schumacher, who is fourth in the drivers championship, could be tempted to reunite with Briatore."Flavio has been in touch to say that we should talk with him.
"We have known Flavio for a long time but we will speak with Ferrari first."
The pair worked together at Benetton where the German won his first titles in 1994 and 1995.
The Italian boss is looking for a suitable replacement for Alonso, who unexpectedly announced he was joining McLaren in 2007.
Alonso will join McLaren in 2007
But Schumacher, 37, must first make up his mind whether he wants to extend his 15-year career.
Webber said."I made it clear to Flavio that we would not talk to him until Michael decides whether he wants to carry on driving or not,"
Schumacher has already said if he carries on racing it is "99%" he will stay with Ferrari.
He Can't,He Simply Can't Join Renault,Can He?Will He Stay Loyal To Ferrari. He Should,After All,He's Won Five Championships There.
But He's A Professional,In This Sport,Loyalties Switch,Like The Way He Unexpected Joined Ferrari Even After His Twin Successes With Benetton(Now Renault).
But Ferrari Is More Than A Team. It's Been His Family For Years.
I Guess It'll All Depend On How This Season Goes.If Ferrari Is No Longer Competitive,He Just Might Make The Switch,Always Assuming He's Willing To Extend His Career.
