My brother has a Nokia 6020, which is quite old (about 4 yrs). Now this has developed some battery issues - the battery does not seem to hold charge for more than 6 to 8 hrs. So he wants to replace the battery with a new one. The battery is BL-5B type.

Now is it possible to replace this battery with a different spec battery.. something that has a higher mAH rating? I've seen a couple of such batteries from ebay.com, and they claim to be 1100mAH, while the original ones are 860mAH. However, these are non-branded Chinese makes which makes me feel queasy about them.

1. Can I replace the battery with a different Nokia make.. (BL-4B or BL-4C or something of that kind) - something which has the same 3.7V rating but better than 860mAH, provided the dimensions are similar?

2. What would be the performance gain in such a case..? How much of an increase in talktime are we expecting here?

3. Are there any reliable non-Nokia manufacturers of batteries for Nokia mobiles..?

I dont think nokia has this feature of using extended batteries like the way we have on our windows mobile. Nokia fails here as well. :)

It is better if you go to a Nokia priority dealer and ask them these questions.

Most of the Nokia batteries are different in shape. So there is very little chance that some other type of battery will fit your phone.

I dont think so nokia priority can help either, they hardly knows anything AFAIK. They just send the handset to the main service center. But I don't think so there is any way to use extended battery. :(

Thanks for the input. Nokia priority dealer said it was impossible, so my brother settled for an original BL5B battery itself.
