PC Peripherals Replacing a dead agp card

Members in a spot of bother my 6800gt AGP card has gone for a toss,so in a bit of confusion what to do next
Here is my present config
CPU - Amd Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Motherboard - MSI K9MMV
So what is advisable just get a AGP card or change my motherboard having a PCIE slot and get a PCIE card(9600gt).Budget around 15k so plz suggest

P.S Another option change the whole setup and get a Intel based system
 
if u get a good price for ur cpu+mobo...sell it off and get a c2d setup + pci gfx card

no point buying a NEW agp card.

another option, buy a used agp card from the market section.
 
Since yours is an AM2 proc, you can easily get an AM2 board with a PCI-E slot. 3k is all you need to spend on a 690G chipset based board, and you can accordingly choose a PCI-E card (9600GT is around 9.5k).

If you feel you need more horsepower, you could go for an Intel C2D setup.

It would be a little hard to find decent AGP options apart from second hand ones as saumik mentioned, so consider this option as a last resort or if you intend to get away with minimal investment.
 
Which AM2 board should i get and if i plan to get a AGP card which card(minimal spending) should i buy which will be better than 6800gt thanks
 
Yogi, I suggest you go with the config Crazy_Eddy suggested. AGP cards are difficult to get. If you are low on budget, just get the motherboard for now and manage with the onboard GPU till you can save to buy a good GPU.

If you do not want to spend 10K on9600GT you can go for the 8600GT card. Its around rs 5K and is definitely faster than the 6800GT :).
EDIT: just went across the other thread. ATI has launched an agp version of 3850HD. So thats an aternative you have as well.
 
Well i have shortlisted these two AM2 boards 1)Biostar A690G AMD 690G and SB600 Chipset and 2)Jetway M2A692-GDG AMD 690G and SB600 Chipset which one to go for or is there anything better,don't want to spend much on the motherboard
 
Both are micro Atx boards. Similar specifications wise, you can buy either of them. Get the one which is cheaper.
 
Should i go for these boards or is there anything better from other companies provided the budget doesn't cross 4k mark
 
Friend these are your best options in below the 4k mark category. There is an Asus board but I did come across a few threads regarding problems with the mobo.
 
The Jetway has a few issues with the MS Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1. If that bothers you, then you could go with the Biostar.

I don't think switching to an Intel setup is needed since you already have an X2. However sticking to an AGP platform might leave you with not much of an upgrade path and not too good a resale value as well.
