Replacing MOBO - Possible Upgrade Suggestions

I found out yesterday that my motherboard has eaten it. Now I haven't been keeping a track of the hardware market and I'm a little clueless at the moment but hoping you fine folks will help me out here.

Budget - 10-15k. ( Will be buying in Bangalore )

Current Config
Mobo -XFX 680i LT
Core 2 duo E6600
XFX 8800 GTS
Antec 900 Cabbie
Corsair HX620
Samsung CRT ( I know, I'm embarassed too )
crappy Transcend Ram 1GB 667

I will be keeping the graphics card, PSU and cabbie. Possibly thinking of replacing the mobo and CPU. Figured upgrading to the new i3/i5 would be a better option than going back to my E6600.

I will not be doing a lot of gaming, got a 360 for that. I will however like to play Diablo3 (whenever that comes out). Maybe the occasional shooter.
95% of the usage will be for Max,Maya modelling and Photoshop work.

I have been looking at this thread
http://www.techenclave.com/pc-buyin...an-technology-community-pc-buying-178097.html

Figured an i5 and Gigabyte P55 mobo would work for me for now.
So suggestions guys? I will be buying the components next week. Possibly Monday.

For rendering x6 performs better and is well within ur budget.
Moreover u also need DDR3 ram.

Amd Phenom II x6 1055t @ 8.8k
Gigabyte GA 880GM UD2H @ 4.5k
G.skill 2GB DDR3 1333MHz @ 1.5k

Total - 14.8k

Samsung CRT ( I know, I'm embarassed too )

I would like to remind you till date CRT produces bet display color, viewing angle, Black level and all except power consumption at the same size.

My suggestion buy any second hand G31 Motherboard from TE with warranty, as your gaming needs are already satisfied by 360. You may get it around Rs. 1000 to 1400 because a brand new MSI G31 board with DDR2 support comes for Rs. 1900 in New Delhi with 3 year warranty.

Few suggestion here
photoshop makes use of opengl. the newer graphics cards handle that better than older ones.
secondly maya and encoding makes use of large quantities ram. so minimum 6 to 8gb is a must.. 4gb is base minimum and not below that

My mom is a multimedia specialist(new term..LOL) she uses the entire adobe suite including premier pro.. even with 6gb the ram is utilized 86 percent while encoding and conversion!

For video editing AMD RULES!!!! just check out anandtech and u will see!!!!!

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

stay away from intel for designing and editing in ur house...
disadv:
1.Heats up too fast
2.Multi-threaded operationsare faster in amd
3.MOBOs are too expensive!

But who knows what will happen in the future..;)

That's true for the sort of usage you have>go for the Amd Phenom II x6 1055t @ 8.8k

Gigabyte GA 880GM UD2H @ 4.5k

2*2GB G.skill DDR3 1333MHz @ 3k

as suggested by Jaskanwar .If it overshoots your budget go for the 955 BE @ 7.2k but don't crimp on the amount of RAM (Seriously buddy............3DMAX with 1GB of RAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p)BTW if you use 64 bit OS it's better if you go for even more RAM

Thanks guys. Will be checking those out.

Double post - Actually I've been working on Maya and not Max yet....yet :)

I'm currently running 2gigs and not 1. An upgrade was in the cards anyway once I started more 3D work.
32 bit OS at the moment...might jump to Windows 7.

+1 to this config... Plus if u can expand ur budget a bit then I think u shud consider G.skill Ripjaws 4GB 1600mhz CL9 which is selling for just 3.6k these days. Buy 4GB ram coz soon the prices of ram are going to go up...

Wh the Ripjaws specifically? I noticed a lot of Gskill love on Techenclave. These sticks way better than Corsair?
( Been out of the pc scene so genuinely curious )

Yes... Got better reviews on new egg plus carries the same 10 year warranty and 600-800 rupees cheaper than corsair 1600mhz sticks ;)... :)

Errr.. Why will it increase? DDR3 is slowly but surely getting a majority of market hold and the prices of DDR3 will dip as the market share increases.

Price increases when demand rises...Few days back I read one article on softpedia about the ram prices... In that article I read that the prices of ram came download bcos the demand was very low now as the ddr3 rams are catching the market the prices of ram are soon going to get high...

BTW why go for P55 when ur usage is mainly proccy intensive.Go for H55.will save money for RAM in case you go Intel

Yes.The DRAM prices have fallen by almost 46% starting from year beginning but according to this article

DRAM prices continue to fall | bit-tech.net

might go up due to Korean trouble.Again it's only a conjecture whereas general consensus is that RAM prices might fall even farther upto Q1 2011

Let's wait and watch :D... Coz in India prices of computer perpherels increases even if it is falling in other countries... For eg. Price of msi gtx 460 came down to 214 $ but in India shopkeepers are still selling it for 13.8k... Here in India ppl just try to earn more and more profit...

So IMO buying a 4Gb now wud b a wiser choice coz in India prices of peripherals increases like anything...

@Marcus Fenix
gtx465 is crap buddy.. too hot and mostly performs lower than gtx460.
smcinternational has whole g.skill range at excellent prices.

@Deepcee
more ram can always be bought later..get x6 first.

Dude jaskanwar... u expect him to work with 2 gb RAM!!!! Have u done any 3d stuff in ur life man?? further he wants to run win7(which i think is a great idea if u are using the latest maya and 3ds max).... Win 7 will itself utilize more than 35 percent of the ram.. what s**t can he do then?? with approximately 1.3gb ram remaining?

^^buddy just tell me can you replace the processor frequently as ram...later he can always spend 1.5k for another 2gb ram but he might not be able to spend 9k on a new processor. x6 has major difference in rendering as compared to x4 owing to its 6 cores.

dude u are right but dont undermine the essentiality of a ram.. he needs minimum 4gb... and further this overshoots his budget by a 1000 max.. so win both ways man..
