Hi,

I am thinking about buying a swivel/tilt wall mount for my samsung 40 inch TV. As in the static mount, its difficult to attach/detach cables.
I have shortlisted the following :
http://shopping.rediff.com/product/...?sc_cid=www.google.co.in|search_tv-wall-mount

and
http://www.amazon.in/Mounting-TAN-W...3_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1CX0WVW8237EV6TJZ6E8

Can you guys give me any suggestion on which one to go for ?
what should I keep in mind while purchasing.. or any other option for me ?

Thanks in advance.

Both look good. Make sure to ask if they come with mounting screws. Also measure the distance between screws. It's probably around 10cm.

I bought a 42" version of this (http://www.ebay.in/itm/Tono-LPW-65-...813380?hash=item25940f3084:g:kusAAOSwEK9Tv5Cd) in Jan 2013. It works great. It is a bit expensive but made of good quality. I think I paid around 6K at that time.

The most important thing that you should take care of while buying a wall mount is the VESA compatibility with your TV. Typically for TVs of 40" and above it will VESA 200. Check your TV manual for the VESA standard supported.
Second most important thing is to ensure that your stand takes the load of the TV. If it is a LED / LCD you probably need not worry. In my case it was a Plasma hence I had to buy a heavy duty wall mount.

I also have a 51" Plasma and want to buy such a mount. However I have a unique predicament. I need the viewing position to be perpendicular to the resting position of the TV. Is such a thing possible on these mounts.

Basically I want the arms to fully extend and then swivel the TV 90° horizontally such that the TV ends up looking as mounted on the adjacent wall.

Not sure I understand your question. Do you want the TV screen to be parallel to the floor? i.e., on the Z axis or XZ Plane opposed to XY plane which would be parallel to the horizontal wall.

No, not parallel to the floor. I want that the viewing position of the TV becomes perpendicular to the wall the mount is on i.e. parallel to the adjacent wall and it goes back to the recessed position when not watching.
So basically, the arm's length should be at least half the length of the TV.
Basically mount gets installed on wall on Y- axis and when I want to watch TV, I can extend the arms and rotate the TV so it becomes parallel to X- axis. The wall in front of my bed doesn't have enough space to mount the TV so I want to mount it on the adjacent wall but keep the viewing position same.

Oh yes. That is very much possible. The model that I bought can be swiveled on the X and Y axis. So I can make the TV perpendicular to the wall mounted bracket and if required even tilt the TV down towards the floor (by a few degrees) if I want to watch the TV sleeping on the floor. That is the whole idea of having a swivel mount, right?

Still my TV is big at 51". Just need to make sure that the length of the arm is at least half as long as my TVs length. Thanks for your inputs.

The arm length should not really matter in my opinion. As long as you can get it perpendicular to the wall you should be OK. I am busy the next couple of days. If time permits I will post a pic of my TV perpendicular to the wall to give you some idea.

I think arm length would matter to get perfectly perpendicular orientation plus some gap of say 1-1.5cm between stand and TV edges. I have 6-way stand from LG. Arms of it get folded in midway. For such a stand, arm length of 13-14" would be enough.

the arm lengh needs to be at least 60 percent of the tv width to ensure the tv works. perpendicular to the wall as requested - he needs to extend the tv, swivel it left/right depending on the wall and the flex :) it should work, i have pana plasma (the original g10) which has a heavy mount which does this.

Did u get Samsung Smart wall mount Free with TV? I bought Samsung from croma and was not given the mount as I was using Table Top. Then I happen to be Samsung store and saw the smart mount. It is very small & makes your TV like a picture frame which you can move around, lift, turn etc. Its cost is Rs 6-7K but sales guy told me - it is free with TV. I went back to croma who told me that Samsung gives free mount only if you opt for wall installation when you buy the TV else mount is not given. I filed a complaint with Croma for not disclosing such facts and demanded Smart mount FOC. After escalation to Croma MD, I rxd a call back and then Samsung deliverd the Smart mount. So I got the mount after 14 months of buying the TV - post warranty. So don;t get shortchanged by these MNCs. Go for their jugular and get your free mount.
