Only, if i was an ST or something.. Hard luck..

I got this thought a lot many times earlier. I then realised it wouldn't help in the long run since merit more often than not ends up commanding more respect than caste, atleast in the corporate world. I was also not as interested in getting into public sector companies, which reinforced the fact that I had to study hard and work harder in any case - however, in an environment where merit would hold more weight than a certificate of my inefficiency

Can't actually say that all SC/STs are not worth it. I know one guy in my 12th who got around 1000 in JEE open category and some two digit rank in SC category. And since our indian govt is giving away few seats for people of his community he gladly took the best branch in a top IIT. Who doesn't take when something's coming for free.

Yes, there will be some well performers

But, if I was to run a business (I wont, am not of the entrepreneurial mindset), I would first disqualify all SC/ST/OBC/Religious minority employees from working for me

You never know who knows his stuff and who got through a reservation

Well, the point isn't that everyone with a OBC / SC / ST certificate is not talented. Talent (thankfully) doesn't see caste or creed. The concern here is the 'solution' is addressing the 'problem'Well, the point isn't that everyone with a OBC / SC / ST certificate is not talented. Talent (thankfully) doesn't see caste or creed. It does become difficult though when one doesn't have a certificate to go by. During the course of my work, I happen to interview chaps, and I have come across guys from IITs working in non-descript companies, looking for a change. Every single time I found out (going by the candidate's responses to the interview questions) that the guys were incompetent for the big field. And each time I was told by my colleagues that he must be a reservation candidate - they figured it out from the surname. Now I am clueless as to which surname denotes which caste so I can safely say I had no bias whatsoever during the interview process, but if this is what reservation gives you, think of the damage it is doing. To an outsider, it would mean that the IITs produce crap. Which is definitely not the case

@OP , controversial topics like religion, politics etc are disallowed, hence closing thread.

Plus we don't want to encourage bigotry over here
