Hello all,

I am going to buy a new Laptop. I have chosen between

1) Sony Vaio EH25- White (i3, 2nd gen, with 512 MB graphics card) and

2) Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 (i3, 2nd gen, without graphics card, with changeable lid).

But my mind and heart always goes for Sony Vaio. This is going to be my first own laptop ever. Kindly let me know your reviews of both these laptops. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Is this the right model of Sony Vaio you are asking about ?

http://www.homeshop18.com/sony-vaio...eripherals/laptops/product:16595127/cid:3291/

Its specs are quite different from the one you are stating ?

Could you give the links to the full specifications & price of that laptops you are asking about for giving you a better & informed answer.
<

Though OT you asked the same question here too right

Hello,

Thanks for the response,

Kindly check specifications for Sony Vaio EH25 and Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 in the below mentioned links:

http://www.sony.co.in/product/vpceh25en/sku/vpceh25en_w+in5

http://www.dell.com/in/p/inspiron-r/pd ( For i3 only)

Also let me know, is any Graphics card available with i3 version of Dell Inspiron 15R N5110.

Awaiting response.

Yes, I had enquried about this on Yahoo as well.

Thanks in advance.

Could you specify what will be this laptop primarily used for ?

Based on the links you gave me I would ask you buy the DELL laptop with a complete cover extended warranty. One more reason to avoid Sony is many users on the forum complain about its durability in general and high cost for repairs if it's out of warranty.

Based on what you are going to use it for you should opt for 4GB RAM & the Nvidia graphic card option which is available for your DELL model OR opt for 2GB RAM and use its integrated graphics for normal usage.
<

Do tell me your primary usage ? Why do you want a dedicated graphic card ? Games ?

I want laptop for normal usage like interne surfing, media use, office work (ms office), using software like photoshop, corel, etc. but my brothers do play games sometimes and in dell, for this (i3) model i am not getting graphics card. Also i read Dell has problems like heating up, unresponsive touchpad, boring looks and its expensive too.

Well if you want looks then there are many laptops available but very few of them are functional, durable and have good after sales service.

Besides you do get swicthable back lids with DELL to help in the looks department.

Yes I have also read about the touchpad issue but if you take the complete cover & extended warranty as I had earlier suggested it wouldn't be a problem as it would be covered in it.

About DELL heating up I am not sure about it, as my friends are using some DELL laptops but never heard anything like that from them, maybe some DELL user on our forum can chip in/ you can ask your friends who use DELL.

If you are going to use it for working on/developing images & videos (Or one fine day your bro wants to play graphic intensive games on it

) then opt for a dedicated graphic card but if its fit casual editing then its not required.

Here a HP G4 with i5 for 35502:

BTW what's the final price you are getting for these two laptops ? Have you enquired already ?

Finally its your decision which brand you want to choose.
<

Do tell me the final price & what you plan to buy !
<

Hope this helps.

Get the Sony Vaio EH, it has better build quality than the inspiron 15R and meets all your requirements, also you can extend the warranty from 1yr to 3yrs at just Rs. 2490 for sony vaio laptops whereas the same 3yrs warranty will cost 6500 for inspiron 15R.

@cooleagle : Sony vaio- around 31250 and Dell at around 35000.

Yes i will definately post as which laptop i have bought.

Thanks for your response :-D

@RS4: I am too thinking seriously about Sony Vaio but i dont know, something is holding me back and my mind is not ready for Dell too.

R u or ur friends using this or other models of Sony Vaio Laptops. Then kindly post ur reviews for that as well.

Thanks for your response :-D

I am visiting this forum again and again to see what response I am getting regarding my question. Its going to help me a lot.

First, get the new model EH35 whith i3 2350M CPU. Same price I believe. Now coming to which laptop you should pick, I assume you have read reviews on the EH and Inspiron both. Both are good laptops but the EH offers better build quality and workmanship, a much better keyboard and you are even getting a 512mb video card.

EH also has lesser heat and noise and looks much better than the Dell.

Also the EH35 (25) is one of the highest selling laptops in the market today and if it was not a good product it would not have sold that much. And also in Q4 2011 Sony overtook Dell to be the largest seller of consumer notebooks in India.

Also remember for the price of the Dell you can get the Vaio + 2 years extended warranty. So you have peace of mind for 3 years no matter what happens. Also you get on site 1yr warranty with the EH free*.

*On Site warranty available in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

@babu.mohan10 Thanks for the fantastic review.

I went to Croma stores some times back, they told me that Sony does not offer onsite warranty and one has to go to their service centre if there is any problem with the laptop, also i came to know from different reviews that sony asks for huge service charges even if the laptop is under warranty stating that servicing of this and that parts of the laptop does not come under warranty. I am liking Sony Vaio very much but the cost and unavailability of parts makes me rethink.

Also now my confusion tends to build up as what is the difference between Sony Vaio EH25 and EH35 (Expensive) as both there models have same specifications when i searched on internet.

Do reply :-D

^

That's false info. You can read the warranty terms and conditions on the Sony website. Most parts are covered under warranty excluding those that you may have installed yourself and other third party products.

And as I mentioned in my previous post if you live in any of the cities I listed, you will get FREE on site warranty.
<

If you get the extended 2 years warranty you don't have to pay anything extra for any repairs.

I have several friends who own the E series and other Vaio models and nobody has faced any service issue.

As for the difference between EH25 and EH35, the EH35 comes with the latest Intel Core i3 2350M CPU whereas the EH25 came with i3 2330M CPU. The difference between both is very marginal, the 2350M is about 2-3% faster overall.

Ok.... I stay in Mumbai.

Just now I enquired with one laptop dealer and she told me that its a carry in warranty. Is anything about warranty mentioned on Sony's website?

She said they have limited stock of EH25 [said old model... is it so???? :-( ] and selling at price of 31990 Rs. [with lots of accessories :-)] and EH35 which is transformed from EH25 is for around 34k and also Dell Inspiron 15R for 35k.

Also if between these two Sony Vaio models, there is only 2-3% difference, then its better I go with EH25. Wats say?

Is it true, EH25 must be having some problem and that is why its changing to EH35 ? :-(

^^ it doesnt matter whether you buy EH25 or EH35, both are good enough for your usage conditions, dont worry about the clearance sale, laptops are updated regularly and hence the dealers give some discount on older models.

Also dont worry about onsite or carry-in warranty, laptops dont malfunction every other day, at worst you may visit service centre only once or twice during the laptops's lifespan.

Yes. Better go for EH25 as there is almost no difference in speed. Get the EH25 + 2490 2 yrs extended warranty. And don't worry there is no "problems" with the EH25.

The price increase is across the entire Vaio range not just EH25 - EH35.

@RS4

Ok.... But i am not getting any discount on any be it EH25 or EH35. She is telling me somewhat same prices as mentioned on respective websites of the brands.

@All

Apart from all, what a fantastic forum it is.... I am getting such prompt reply and all responses are so useful. Thanks all for the response. Its going to be my first own Laptop ever. I hope I get a good deal. I am so happy....!

I just bought sony EH25 a day ago..

The EH35 was also available but it was 2k dearer and I did not care that much for the performance of 2350 over 2330...

I have to say It is a very nice notebook, very good heat management, average amount of bloatware, very bright screen(although it can use some contrast)...

I can play games like Aom and NFS (whatever that latest one was) and I could not be happier....
<

Price I paid for Eh25: 31k

Extra ram: Rs 800

Extended warranty : 2.5k

so total : 34.3k for 3years of digital peace...

Do try out the keyboard and Touchpad at the store before commiting. Esp If you are coming from Hp/Sony. The TP is clikety-clackaty affair. While the keyboard has an obscene habit of getting stuck(atleast in my model)

Anyway not dealbreakers, but still thinking about...

6.5k for extended warranty ?
<

If that's true then the total will come to 41k for DELL which is a quite high when compared to 33.7k for Sony.

Then it becomes a no brainer then #sneha28.gupta go for Sony but do check the terms & conditions of the extended warranty by Sony.

As in what does it cover and what it does not ? Are there any charges while claiming repairs in the extended warranty period, if yes then how much & for what ? Do they have reasonable terms ? How are they compared to DELL's terms & conditions ?

If they are favourable then go for it.
<

Do update here what conclusion you come to about the terms & conditions of Sony Vaio !

If that's true

what do you mean by this bolded statement? when you dont have any idea about certain product and its services then you should keep your mouth shut instead of doubting other members who are stating the facts based on their experience and correct information.

charges during warranty period? favorable terms?? your post is hilarious to say the least!!

Why are you simply creating confusion again and again? sony vaio and dell both have same extended warranty terms, it covers motherboard, dvd drive everything except battery.

And both dell and sony dont charge for repair during warranty unless you damaged the laptop/drowned the laptop.

@cooleagle

Definately i will check for extended warranty of Sony Vaio.

@All

I am definately buying Sony Vaio EH25 Black on the auspicious day of Holi (8th March) though I like White very much but in sense of long term use I am going for Black after many consultations and thought.

I went to some electronic stores before and today as well and last I went to was Sony Mony from where I would be buying my Laptop. Sony Mony is giving lots of accessories with this deal which is worth getting with this price.

Dude just chill down ! I am not sure about the terms of Sony so just asked OP to check it out and hence I asked for feedback from OP too.

Its not directed at you or its not that I doubted your credibility or something like that, so don't get worked up on it.

If I ask OP to check and confirm something how does it cause confusion ?

Do tell me how confirming the terms and conditions before buying a device amounts to confusion ? The time which OP spends on checking on the terms and conditions will help OP take a better decision.

Now you want to tell OP to go buy something without reading the terms & conditions then go ahead no one will stop you.
