:S  :S  :S
guys...i am totally confused here!!!
i did write about what i had decided to get in the previous thread...but then i did some googling abt how good the
Core2duo is...and the result is
so i need ur help.i read abt what Sumeet wanted to get and most of u suggested the Conroe...but a few disagreed that it would be 'too much' proccessing power for his usage, and asked him to get an Anthlon64 and a gfx card.
so i ask u the same question...for my needs(read 1st thread),should i spring for the Conroe or will an Anthlon64 be 'enough'?
there are also 3 main factors to consider:
1.this rig has got to last for 5 years(so i guess conroe is more future-proof).
2.i dont need a gfx card right now.
3.my budget is 25k,in which i hv to get everything in the cabby...so if i get a conroe, there will be a compromise in other components.

i am too confused now and i hope u guys understand my problem.
looking forward to some advice...

lets simplify this...

my usage:internet, autocad,C++,storing music and movies, project work,
"casual" gaming.

my budget:max 25k

points to consider:
1.this rig gotta last for 5 years.
2.i dont require a gfx card now...coz usage is not-so-intense.
3.never gonna OC.

i need to get:
proccy
mobo
cabby
SMPS
RAM
HDD
DVD-writer
2.1 speakers

most important question:
should i go for Conroe or Anthlon64 or any other proccy???

pls help!!!

considering my not so intensive usage(i dont need a super-fast CPU) and budget,i have decided to go in for the following configuration:
AMD Antlon64 3000+(4.3k)
ASUS A8N-VM mobo(4.3k)
256MB DDR400 Transcend RAM(1.3k) + will use present 256MB RAM=512MB
80 GB SATA Seagate HDD(2.2k) + present 40GB Samsung = 120GB
cabby + VIP 400W SMPS (2.5k)
will use old LG CD-writer
Total cost=14.6k

i'll save 10k,which i intend to use to get a DVD-writer and a DirectX 10 graphics card ...maybe after a year.

IMO this config is best suited for u.

:) :) For your budget the specs you mentioned is okay..
2 things...
1.No computer lasts for 5 years. Even I have a 6 year old comp but I just watch a bit of TV and listen to music. Nothing more.

2. It is always better you buy the whole pc rather than waiting to upgrade...Who knows 1 or 2 years down the line the graphics card slot might change n u may not get a card for your mobo...

3..Also a DX10 card when initially released will obviously be more costly than 10k so you might have to wait a year for it to come down...
