Rig for around 30K

My relatives are looking to get a rig for basic usage. They would be using it for creating & editing MS office documents, browsing & watching DVD movies.

The budget is 30K, but can be stretched upto 35k if justified.

I am inclined towards a AMD rig, since I believe a Core i3 might not fit into the budget. Regardless of an AMD or Intel CPU, I will need a Mobo with an Integrated graphics able to drive a 19" or 17" LCD monitor decently.

They are currently using a 15" CRT monitor on an ancient PIII rig. I believe the biggest "wow" factor for them (apart from the speed) would be having a big screen, so would prefer a 19" LCD screen.

For backup, will have to get a UPS. I am thinking of getting a APC 800VA UPS. Again, need the cost of this, and also need to know if it would be able to handle the rig.

Need to fit in 2 external peripherals too into this budget: a Printer & a Scanner. I have no idea about the costs of these, so please suggest. In terms of reliability, would a MFD be better, or 2 seperate devices are more sensible?

For your PC needs the above config would suffice. For your peripheral needs wait for other members to comment. For this config even a Numeric 600VA ~ 1.5k would suffice if you need only 10-15 minutes of backup. ( I use a Numeric 600VA for last 6 months and its pretty good)

i would suggest you to get better speakers and more space on drive and a mobo with better igp so that is is futureproof .

also u can shift the processor to x3 !

as what dark suggested its good for your needs but why not get a little better pc for future when you have the money to spend :D

I'd suggest upgrading DarkAngel's configuration with a 22 inch LCD. Your relatives will love the extra 3 inches while watching a movie or any other basic task.

Yeah as people suggest you can get a bigger monitor, better processor+mobo within your budget. But i am not too sure of which MFD will be good for your usage and the price (around 5k?) If that is so then you can upgrade a bit :)

AthlonII X3 440 - 3.3k

Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H - 4.1k (Cheap in Bangalore)

Benq G2220HD - 7.5k

CM Elite 310 with transparent side panel - 1.85k (optional)

Gigabyte Super 460w - 2.1k (optional)

Total: 23.1k-24.3k (24.6k-25.8k including a Numeric 600VA)

These are good upgrades to the current config :)

For speakers you can consider the Altec lansing VS2621 ~ 1.65k. Among the best sub 2k 2.1 speakers
 
As ur neighbour wont b upgrading this rig any time soon (after seeing ur post i understood that they wud like to use this rig for 4 yrs or so...) so i wud like to suggest u something powerful and futureproof...

  • Suggested u a quadcore CPU coz i think they will use this rig for more than 4 yrs (suggested this after watching that they are still using P3 Rig :))
  • The motherboard that i've suggested has sata 6GBPS ports and USB3 ports...
  • Suggested u a 22 incher "BenQ G2220HD" coz i read that they wud really get happy if they will get a 22 incher within their 35k budget...

You're right. I forgot to mention it, they would not be upgrading this rig for another 4-5 years.

So, as suggested, X4 would be much better. Since a 22" or 20" LCD can fit into the budget, I just only need to know if the onboard GPU with the Gigabyte GA-880GA mobo can drive the native resolutions(I guess either 1680x1050 or 1920×1080) comfortably.

Now, just need suggestions for the peripherals. They need a scanner and a printer. These can be seperate devices, or a MFD. However I am a bit wary of MFD devices since people tell me that they have a chance of conking off early. Actual users please comment :-)

Yes HD4250IGP which 880GA-UD3H has can drive even 1080p monitors... And ur relatives can even watch 1080p rips easily... :)

Wud suggest u to buy a good Canon or HP printer... I m no expert in suggesting printers so i really can't suggest u a specific model...

What is the difference between the Asus M4A78LT-M LE, Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H, Asus M4A88T m le and Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H other than the onboard graphics?

If he want to get in gaming after some months:

Compared to Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H, isn't it better to get Asus M4A78LT-M LE with a medium Graphic card in Rs.3500/-. I think it will perform better than the Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H? (Just for knowledge)

X3 455 would be the flagship of X3 and would be priced @4k!! The X3 440 @ 3.25k is the sweet spot IMO

Reg. the mobo its not about the integrated graphics but the quality and features.

The 880GA-UD3H has more expansion slots, more RAM slots, SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0, better build, ATX, more OC headroom, all solid caps compared to the Asus 78LT-M

Yes the Corsair CX400 is better than the Giga Superb

you need a gpu for watching HD movies..gt 210 costs only 2.5k .. & it is not for gaming.

cx 400 is a nice psu for 2.6k

I dont think MFD's conk off early if u ask me.i am using a HP MFD 1005 from past 5 yrs and its still works as new "touch wood".paid 12k though

Is this the same FSP Saga II as suggested above as FSP Saga comes in Blue and Bronze supplies :

And , is the mobo suggested above for Rs.5500/- is really so useful when these type of Processors & mobo will change a lot in 2-3 months time with the coming up of Liano processors (if he intends to change it in next 6 months time).

Lastly what is the price difference between gigabyte ga-880gma-ud2h, ga-880ga-ud3h, GA-880G USB3 and GM - MA 785GPMT-UD2H .
