Hey guys!

A friend of mine who is currently into animation is looking for a VFM rig that is gonna see her thru for the next couple of years at least. I've included the stuff thats required. Please advice.

The rig won't be used for gaming mostly, However, it needs to be good enough for some rendering.

Please advice. :)

Q: What is your budget?

35k
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)

None
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.

CPU - Intel Quad/dual (whichever is within my budget)
Motherboard - any compatible motherboard
GPU - A decent Nivida

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

No upgrades for the next 2 years at least.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)

Bangalore

AthlonII X4 620 - 5400/- or Phenom II 550 BE - 5300/-
Gigabyte 785GMT-UD2H 5900/-
Transcend DDR3 1333 - 2400/-
Seagate 500GB 7200.12 - 2300/-
Power color 512MB ATI HD4770 - 7000/- or ATI HD5750 GPU - 9500/-
Dell 18.5" - E1910 IN - 6600/-
CM Elite 310 - 1550/-
Gigabyte superb 460w - 2200/-
Logitech Mouse/KB - 700/-
Samsung/LG/Sony SATA DVD R/W- 1100/-
This rig costs ~33-35k. It has a quad core CPU, AM3 MOBO, DDRIII RAM,DX11 card.:ohyeah: So you can have all the latest hardware in your budget. But wait for 2-3 months before you buy the GPU so that the prices stabilize and you can pick a HD5750 for ~7k. Both the HD5750 and HD4770 are 40nm fabrication and consume less power making it a Ideal one for HTPC+Gaming rigs.

Thanks a lot Karthi007! But is there anything in the intel section? Although I have nothing against amd. Just wondering whats the intel equivalent for the proccys you've mentioned. :)

Thanks guys! My friend says she's also looking at laptops as a better option. Any suggestions on lappys?

For a laptop,
Acer aspire 5536G @31k.
It comes with ati hd 4570, 3gb ddr2 ram, 320gb hard drive. But the processor is not so good with a 2.2ghz AMD turion x2 dual core.

Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 (Rs 5500)
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L (Rs 6000)

Dude in which era do u live ?

Intel Core 2 duo are EOL and spending money on 6k mobo with ddr2 eol cpu is foolish

Alright guys.. Thanks for all your help. In the end she's settling for a lappy (mobility factor) and its most probably dell 15 (52k)

IMO it would be a very big mistake choosing to go with a lappy for animation purposes..assuming there will be a stage when she would need to keep her system on rendering for hours together, it will surte fry her lappy..have personally experienced it though i knew i ws doing injustice to a labtop, An Intel or an Amd desktop would be a wiser choice. Not to mention she could get better and faster results even with a graphics card which you can accomodate in that budget.,

Whoa hold on there.

A laptop for animation is not at all recommendable. It will fry ur lappy's cpu as animation is tedious process and prolongs for hours. Its a big NO NO !!

If animation is ur concern go with a desktop , laptop can't compensate for a desktop.

I mentioned this to her but she seems fixated upon the lappy. Anyway, it isn't gonna be much of rendering it seems.

Zeroed in on 2 lappys.

1. Dell Studio 15
2. Sony Vaio CW 16
Could anyone help with the final verdict?

A lot of user reviews about dell say that the sound is awful. I have no idea about the sony. Which among the two has a more powerful proccy (T series vs. P series) and graphics(ati vs. nvidia)

Also, the wifi needs to be powerful.

Please reply asap. Thanks

I rather go for an HP DV6 series laptop. The P series is faster than the T and i think they consume less power too, not too sure.
