yeah im trying to form a band.
btw lead guitarist and vocalist are taken (..by me).
if i had another lead/rythm guitarist tho that would be cool because i have only like 10 months of experience (but i can play to save my life, and i can sing and play along).
the genre is gonna be punk rock. punk and ska and maybe something else. i cant get my hopes high tho because im not in a band and want to form one so i thought id search for ppl on good ol te.

^^Hard to play lead and sing at the same time. Results at times can be disastrous. Better do rhythm if you wanna sing along and get someone else to do the leads.

Try Caayotee, he plays the guitar. Took it up 6 or 7 months ago, I believe. And Anish was asking for a Fender, so he probably knows a bit.

Not necessarily, because coventionally you don't play leads and sing at the same time. Both would grab emphasis and in turn negate each other. The effect would be cacophonic. Unless you're Oasis (and then the leads and simple anyway) or into experimental, post-rock stuff. But then Arun isn't so, he's safe.

I play guitar incidentally. Been playing since '97 :) I do rhythm, lead and classical.

im not talking about the solo lead stuff. im talking about normal lead guitars. chords and stuff. tabs. no too much of strumming, distortion and palm muting.
ooohh yeah. i forgot you played the guitar nikhil. i was hoping to find someone good with solos and stuff, because im not that type of person, although i could pull off something not so tough.

Well you haven't heard much prog rock have you ;). But true in conventional thingies, it generally doesnt happen. Even then, its personal experience that its pretty hard to do. Atleast I'm not upto it :P.

I quote myself, just in case you missed it the first time.

The Oasis bit was more of a snide really, but I guess it didn't have the desired effect.

And believe me, I've been a guitar for almost ten years, there's nothing like "you can't sing and play leads at the same time". It's only a matter of time before you pick it up. People play drums and sing at the same time, which is A MILLION TIMES tougher.

About my tastes in music, haha Are you kidding me?? I only do progressive, experimental, post-rock stuff. Oh and I don't mean Metal, which quite frankly, is a whole load of rubbish.

^^Thats why I said... its hard for me :D, may not be for others :). LOL I generally play bass and find that tough... maybe I'm really bad :P.

OT: So what sort of proggy stuff do u do? Covers or originals? Just curious :).

Completely original stuff. We should meet up sometime and jam since I've inferred that you play as well :) I get my inspiration from a whole load of stuff. Currently it's this band called Explosions in the Sky. I dunno if you've heard them, but if you listen to the same music as me, you ought to love it.

Old timers that die hard? King Crimson.

Haha King Crimson is one of my faves as well along with Yes and Rush :). I've heard a bit of Explosions, seemed pretty interesting. Of newer stuff, I mainly listen to DT and its offshoots. Fantastic stuff but incredibly hard to do! Lets see we should meet up next time I'm in Bbay!

ok.... i'm a drummer.... bit rusty... Sing and Drumming - i've tried that sh*t... tough... it initially is tough trying turn toward the other side, if the guy cant place a mic near ur mouth properly... Even if he does, sometimes the crash gets clumsy.... then u start panting... after 2 mins u'll feel... why sh*t am i doing this???? :p

Wow..how did i miss this..

Well i've been practising for the last few months, but i guess i need to go a long way before my first gig...i do play a few guitar solos well but yet to work on my original solo.. thanks kingkrool for recommending me but i guess, i'm may still not be comfortable on the stage...need atleast a year or more for prep..

BTW, Chaos, DT sure rocks and its not easy doing a DT cover..but hats off to you for atleast trying it out.. ;) I'm a big fan of progressive rock as well..have you tried Vanden plas, dreamscape, gordian knot, deadsoul tribe, transatlantic,DGM,secret sphere and threshold etc. good underground stuff...:)

its nice you play the guitar. even i need practice too. alot of it. its really hard finding people who like the same genre as i do tho.

nikhil how do you use your fx box? when i put distortion on all i hear is acoustic with some static sound.

Heard all of them other than secret sphere :). Its unfortunate that the audience for such music is quite limited and most ppl just write it off saying its too complex to appreciate :(. In a way I'm happy, after all I'd not want morons to create remixes of prog rock songs :P. BTW John Myung is god of bass :D.
